Project Overview
Gennaker is a 976.5 MW fixed-bottom offshore wind farm under development by Skyborn Renewables. It is located in the German Baltic Sea, approximately 15 km north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Comprising 63 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD turbines mounted on monopile foundations, it will be one of the largest offshore wind farms in Germany (Baltic Sea) upon its full operation expected by the end of 2028.
The project reached its most significant commercial milestone on 19 June 2026, when Amazon signed a 600 MW long-term corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) covering approximately 61 percent of Gennaker's generating capacity.
In parallel, Stadtwerke München (SWM), Munich's municipal utility, agreed to acquire a 25 percent equity stake in Gennaker, forming a strategic partnership with Skyborn as the project moves toward construction.
The Amazon PPA - Germany’s Largest Corporate Power Purchase Agreement
The Amazon PPA, signed on 19 June 2026, is the largest single power purchase agreement ever executed in Germany and one of the largest in Europe. Covering approximately 61 percent of Gennaker's 976.5 MW generating capacity, it reflects both Amazon's scale of electricity demand in Germany and the confidence Amazon has placed in Skyborn's ability to deliver the project.
The Amazon PPA converts 61 percent of Gennaker's output from merchant power price exposure into a contracted, fixed-price revenue stream, dramatically improving the project's debt capacity, reducing the cost of capital, and making the equity returns predictable enough for investors like Stadtwerke München to commit.

Project Background
Skyborn started the project development in 2011 and conducted the preliminary technical studies and feasibility evaluation. Feasibility studies and environmental investigations were subsequently conducted between 2011 and 2016. Skyborn received initial approval for the site in May 2019 and retains exclusive rights to develop the project.
In 2022, German TSO 50Hertz awarded contracts for the offshore converter platforms and grid‑connection system (OST‑6‑1) that will serve Gennaker, and in 2023 export‑cable EPCI contracts were awarded to Hellenic Cables and ZTTSC for the 220 kV AC interconnection.
In June 2024, Skyborn updated the turbine strategy, signing a new master supply agreement with Siemens Gamesa for 63 SG 14‑236 DD turbines with a power boost to 15 MW, lifting the project’s nameplate capacity to around 945 MW and later to 976.5 MW.
Fred. Olsen Windcarrier was named preferred contractor for turbine transport and installation in July 2025. In December 2025, the State Office for Agriculture and Environment in Stralsund granted the construction and operations permit, clearing the path to a final investment decision (FID) targeted for summer 2026.
Seaway7 was awarded the contract in January 2026 to transport and install the 63 monopiles and transition pieces. In June 2026, Stadtwerke München & Skyborn Renewables formed the Partnership for the Gennaker Offshore Wind Farm. The offshore activity is expected to begin in 2027, and commissioning is planned for 2028.
Gennaker Offshore Wind Farm Current Status
As of mid‑2026, the Gennaker Offshore Wind Farm is in the pre‑construction phase with a final investment decision targeted for 2026. The project received its full construction and operations permit from the Ministry of Climate Protection, Agriculture, and Environment Mecklenburg‑Western Pomerania in December 2025.
In January 2026, Skyborn and 50Hertz signed a cooperation agreement for the two offshore converter platforms (OSS Darß and OSS Zingst), enabling grid connection commissioning by mid-2028. The project expects full commissioning by late 2028.

Benefits
The following are the benefits of the project:
Power Generation: With up to 976.5 MW capacity, Gennaker will generate about 4 TWh of green electricity annually. It is enough to power roughly one million German households.
CO2 Emissions Reduction: The project is estimated to avoid around 1.95 million tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions per year by displacing fossil-fuel-based generation in Germany.
Local Manufacturing: Monopile foundations will be produced by EEW Special Pipe Constructions in Rostock (~40 km from site), keeping major manufacturing spend and jobs within the region.
Long-Term Price Stability Via PPAs: Power purchase agreements with major off-takers (e.g., Amazon) provide revenue certainty, de-risking the project and enabling faster financial close and construction.
Contribute to Germany’s 2030 Target: The project’s power generation capacity significantly changes the German Baltic's role in national offshore wind capacity, shifting it from a secondary zone to a materially significant contributor to Germany's 30 GW offshore wind target by 2030.
Conclusion
Gennaker offshore wind farm project, having a generation capacity of approximately 976.5 MW, contributes to Germany's 30 GW offshore wind target by 2030. With an annual generation of around 4 TWh, enough to supply roughly one million households, the project also saves CO2, equivalent to about 1.95 million tonnes, as it displaces fossil-fuel generation.
With long-term PPAs secured from large off-takers such as Amazon, the project enjoys revenue certainty that supports timely construction and operation, positioning Gennaker as both a climate and industrial milestone for Germany’s energy transition.
