Edged Energy has received approval from the New Albany City Council to establish a data center facility. The company plans to construct a 210,000-square-foot data center on a 15-acre parcel at 6385 New Albany Road East. The total estimated cost of the project is around USD 250 million. Construction is set to commence in January 2024 and is expected to be completed in March 2025.
The New Albany Council has also granted a 15-year, 100% real property tax abatement for Edged. Compliance with incentives will be measured based on New Albany's formula for revenue generation per square foot.
The data center will be designed to meet the growing demand for edge computing, which involves processing data closer to where it is generated. This can help reduce latency and improve performance for various applications, such as autonomous vehicles, smart cities, and industrial automation. Edged data centers are designed to use zero water for cooling and advanced electrical systems to lower costs and minimize the environmental footprint. Edged's parent company, Endeavor, has developed a new unit called ThermalWorks to offer its cooling technology to other data center operators.
Ohio is an attractive location for data centers due to its low energy costs, reliable power grid, and access to fiber optic networks. The state also boasts a strong workforce of IT professionals. The development of data centers in Ohio is expected to have a significant economic impact on the state, generating billions of dollars in investment and creating thousands of new jobs.
