Project Overview

FPSO Errea Wittu, whose name means 'abundance,' is a 250,000-barrel-per-day FPSO (Floating Production, Storage & Offloading) vessel built by MODEC of Japan for ExxonMobil Guyana's Uaru Development Project. It is the fifth project on the prolific Stabroek Block. The vessel has set sail from Singapore to Guyana, with first production at the Uaru field targeted for Q4 2026.

The Errea Wittu will be the largest FPSO in the Stabroek fleet and, when it begins producing, will raise Guyana's installed offshore production capacity from approximately 915,000 barrels per day to approximately 1.2 million bpd. It is built on MODEC's M350 new-build hull design & construction model, which features the highest water injection and water capacity specifications in the Stabroek fleet.

The Uaru field, located offshore Guyana, is estimated to hold more than 800 million barrels of oil. The development plan encompasses up to 10 drill centres, 44 wells (21 producers and 23 injectors), 44 TechnipFMC Subsea 2.0® subsea trees, and 12 manifolds.

Uaru FPSO Location

The Uaru FPSO (Errea Wittu) is located in the ultra-deepwater of the Stabroek Block, approximately 200 km offshore Guyana in the Atlantic Ocean. Operating in water depths of roughly 1,690 m, the facility is positioned at about 16 km northeast of the Liza field and around 200 km from Georgetown.

Project Background

ExxonMobil first identified the Uaru accumulation during the systematic appraisal of the Stabroek Block that followed the transformational Liza discovery in 2015. Uaru was confirmed as a major accumulation with estimated resources exceeding 800 million barrels, making it one of the largest individual discoveries in the block.

The Final Investment Decision for Uaru was taken on April 27, 2023, with a total development investment of USD 12.7 billion. The co-venture structure mirrors that of all Stabroek Block developments: ExxonMobil Guyana (45% operated), with Hess Guyana (30%; now Chevron Guyana following Chevron's USD 53 billion acquisition of Hess in late 2024) and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana (25%). The April 2023 FID followed receipt of government and regulatory approvals from the Government of Guyana and its Petroleum Commission.

MODEC, one of the Top FPSO Companies in the World, was selected as the FPSO builder. It began construction in November 2023 with simultaneous first steel cutting ceremonies in Singapore (for topside modules) and China (for the hull). MODEC's hull was fabricated at COSCO's Chinese yard, with hull works including partial module lifting and integration completed before the China sailaway in late June 2025. The vessel arrived at Seatrium's Singapore yard on June 28, 2025, for full module integration and commissioning.

The Uaru field's subsea infrastructure was being prepared in parallel with the FPSO construction. Jumbo Offshore deployed its J-class heavy lift installation vessel Fairplayer to install the suction anchors and pre-lay the mooring lines for the Errea Wittu's spread mooring system.

Conclusion

The Uaru development marks ExxonMobil’s fifth major offshore project on the Stabroek Block and is on track for first oil in Q4 2026, with the Errea Wittu FPSO now en route from Singapore to Guyana. Once operational, Uaru will add up to 250,000 bpd of gross oil production capacity.

The project’s integration of the Uaru, Mako, and Snoek accumulations under a single FPSO hub demonstrates the continued scale‑up and replication of the Stabroek development model, with Uaru serving as a key near‑term growth driver for ExxonMobil’s Guyana portfolio.
