EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) has celebrated the groundbreaking of Cypress Knee Solar, a 250 megawatt (MW) solar energy project in Chicot County, Arkansas.
Cypress Knee Solar Targets 2028 Completion
The event took place on November 4, 2026, and marks what the company describes as a significant investment in the state's energy future, local economy, and energy infrastructure.
The project is supported by a long-term power purchase agreement with Meta. Once operational, Cypress Knee Solar is expected to deliver new power generation to the grid while supporting continued economic growth in the region. The company anticipates the project will be completed by 2028.
Economic Benefits for Chicot County
Cypress Knee Solar is expected to generate approximately USD 25 million in new revenue for Chicot County over its lifetime. At peak construction, the project is expected to support several hundred jobs, providing opportunities for local workers, contractors, and suppliers.
Once operational, the solar project will contribute substantial tax revenue that can help fund schools, infrastructure improvements, emergency services, and other community priorities throughout Chicot County, according to EDPR NA.

Support for Meta's Renewable Energy Goals
The project supports Meta's commitment to matching 100% of its annual electricity use with clean and renewable energy generation. The long-term power purchase agreement between EDPR NA and Meta underpins the development of the 250 MW facility.
Leadership Perspectives
"Breaking ground at Cypress Knee Solar marks an important milestone for the project and for Arkansas' growing role in America's energy future," said Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO of EDP Renewables North America.
"As energy demand continues to rise, projects like Cypress Knee Solar help strengthen grid reliability while creating jobs, generating meaningful local revenue, and delivering long-term benefits to the communities that host them. We are proud to partner with Meta and local stakeholders to advance new energy infrastructure that supports economic growth and American energy independence."
Community Investments During Development
During the project's development phase, EDPR NA has contributed more than USD 77,000 to organizations and programs in Chicot County.
These contributions include support for the restoration of the Lakeside High School greenhouse, resources for the Lakeside Robotics team, and funding for the Lake Village food pantry.
