Essen-based energy company RWE has commissioned its Serra Palino onshore wind farm in the Apulia region of southern Italy, less than one year after the start of construction.
The project is located in the municipalities of Sant'Agata di Puglia and Candela, in the province of Foggia.
RWE delivers 47.2 MW of renewable capacity
With a total installed capacity of 47.2 megawatts, the wind farm comprises eight wind turbines of 5.9 MW each.
According to RWE, the facility is capable of generating enough green electricity to supply approximately 40,000 Italian households.
Company leadership hails rapid delivery
Sopna Sury, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, welcomed the milestone, saying, "The commissioning of Serra Palino less than a year after the start of construction is an achievement we can be truly proud of and one that reflects the outstanding work of everyone involved."
Sury also pointed to the company's continued expansion in the country: "And we are not stopping there: today, we have around 200 MW of new wind and solar capacity under construction in Italy. This marks another step in our commitment to expanding renewables in Italy and contributing to an increasingly reliable and competitive energy system."

RWE's growing Italian portfolio
The commissioning of Serra Palino raises RWE's total installed capacity in Italy to approximately 670 megawatts, enough to supply green electricity to more than 550,000 Italian households.
The company's operational portfolio in the country currently consists of 18 onshore wind farms, one photovoltaic plant, and three agrivoltaic plants.
RWE describes itself as a key player in the Italian renewables market, pursuing an integrated project approach that spans the development, construction, and operation of wind farms and solar plants, as well as their marketing.
Beyond its operating assets, the company currently has around 200 megawatts of further wind and solar capacity under construction in Italy.
