The PNE Group (renewable energy project developer) has won contracts for two onshore wind projects in Germany's Federal Network Agency tender round dated May 1, 2026, with a combined awarded capacity of 108 megawatts, the Cuxhaven-based developer announced.

Two Projects Across Two German States

The awarded projects span two federal states and represent distinct stages of wind energy development. The larger of the two, the "Beerfelde" wind farm located in Brandenburg, was granted a contract for a total capacity of 100.8 MW. The second project, the "Hassendorf" repowering in Lower Saxony, received a contract for 7.2 MW.

The Hassendorf award carries particular significance as it completes the full contract coverage of that wind farm. The first two turbines at Hassendorf had already secured contracts in an earlier tender round in August 2025, meaning the third and final turbine of the project has now also been awarded, bringing the entire Hassendorf wind farm under contract.

Battery Storage Integration Planned at Beerfelde

Alongside preparatory construction work at Beerfelde, PNE has disclosed that it is examining the integration of a green electricity storage system, referred to as a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), to be operated in support of the grid.

According to the company, planning for this potential addition is already at an advanced stage. PNE described the effort as an attempt to tap into the potential of hybrid plant combinations at an early stage of the project's development.

The company did not specify the storage capacity under consideration or provide a timeline for a final decision on the BESS component, but the dual focus on wind generation and battery storage at the same site reflects a broader interest in hybrid configurations within the renewable energy sector.

Competitive Tender Conditions

PNE's Chief Operating Officer, Roland Stanze, acknowledged that the awards came in a competitive environment, noting what he described as significant oversubscription and again significantly reduced award values in the tender round. Despite those conditions, he said the outcomes confirmed the quality of the company's project pipeline and its standing in the German wind energy market.

"The successful awards, despite significant oversubscription and again significantly reduced award values confirm the high quality of our project pipeline and our strong position in the German wind energy market," Stanze said. "With the Beerfelde and Hassendorf projects, we are making a further contribution to the expansion of renewable energies in Germany."
