Copenhagen-based European Energy has secured contracts for six onshore wind projects totalling 125 MW following the latest renewable energy auction conducted by Germany's Federal Grid Agency, the Bundesnetzagentur.

The awards span four German states and mark a further step in the company's long-running effort to build and de-risk a large-scale development portfolio in one of Europe's most significant renewable energy markets.

Six Projects Spread Across Four German States

The successful bids cover projects located in Saxony-Anhalt, North Rhine-Westphalia, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Brandenburg. Together, the six projects carry a combined installed capacity of 125 MW.

European Energy did not specify the individual size or timeline for each project, but described the auction outcome as reflecting the maturity and competitiveness of assets developed over a period of many years.

The company has been active in Germany for more than two decades, working with municipalities, landowners and regional stakeholders to advance projects through permitting and development stages.

The latest awards follow a pattern of ongoing participation in Germany's federal auction system, through which developers compete for long-term contracts that provide revenue certainty once projects are built.

De-Risking Strategy and Portfolio Value

European Energy framed the auction results in terms of the financial and strategic value they create within its broader German portfolio. According to the company, securing auction contracts increases the proportion of de-risked assets it holds, which in turn strengthens the portfolio's attractiveness to external investors and creates opportunities for future transactions.

Jens Peter Zink, Deputy CEO of European Energy, said the German portfolio illustrates the company's wider approach to developing renewable energy projects at scale. "As these assets mature, they represent attractive opportunities for strategic investors," he said.

The company indicated it maintains flexibility in how it ultimately manages the projects, retaining the option to carry assets through construction and into operation or to pursue strategic partnerships as individual projects reach suitable stages of maturity.

Capital recycling has become a central feature of European Energy's business model, allowing it to reinvest proceeds from asset sales or partnerships into new development activity.

The auction wins, by advancing the de-risking process for these six projects, are described as creating additional potential for that kind of transaction activity in Germany.

Years of Local Development Work Behind the Results

Claudia Schilling, Senior Director and Country Manager for Germany at European Energy, attributed the auction success to long-term investment in project development and stakeholder relationships at the regional level. "Successfully bringing projects to this stage requires patience, technical expertise, and a long-term commitment to the regions where we operate," she said.

Schilling noted that the results reflect close collaboration with other developers, municipalities, landowners and local communities over many years. She added that the company's development pipeline leaves it well-positioned for future rounds of the federal auction process and for continued growth within Germany.

The German renewable energy auction system, administered by the Bundesnetzagentur, allocates support contracts to wind and solar projects on a competitive basis.

Developers submit bids, and successful projects receive a guaranteed price for the electricity they generate once operational, reducing the revenue risk associated with wholesale market exposure.

Securing a contract through the auction is considered a significant milestone in the development lifecycle and is a prerequisite for most project financing arrangements.

Regulatory Stability Flagged as Ongoing Concern

European Energy used the announcement to highlight the importance of a stable and predictable regulatory environment for sustained investment in German wind energy.

The company said that such frameworks are necessary not only to support the deployment of currently planned projects but also to strengthen supply chains and ensure continued development beyond the current planning horizon.

Germany has set ambitious targets for renewable energy expansion, and the government has made regulatory changes in recent years to accelerate permitting and increase auction volumes.

European Energy's comments suggest that, from a developer's perspective, consistency in policy and auction design remains a material factor in determining long-term investment decisions and pipeline activity.

Position in the German Market

European Energy's presence in Germany stretches back more than twenty years, making it one of the longest-established international developers operating in the country.

The company described its German portfolio as diversified across multiple projects and regions, providing it with flexibility in how assets are developed, financed and ultimately disposed of or retained.

The six projects awarded in the latest auction round add to a development pipeline that the company said it continues to expand. European Energy stated its intention to participate actively in future Bundesnetzagentur auction rounds, positioning Germany as a core market within its European development platform.
