ABO Energy Wins 61.4 MW in German Wind Tender as Project Sales and International Deals Advance

ABO Energy (renewable energy company) has secured feed-in tariffs for three onshore wind projects totalling 61.4 MW in Germany's Federal Network Agency's May 2026 tender round, while simultaneously completing wind farm sales, clearing a legal hurdle in North Rhine-Westphalia, and expanding its international portfolio through deals in Spain and Colombia.

Three Projects Awarded in May Tender

The Wiesbaden-based developer was awarded contracts for a single wind turbine in Ohlenbüttel, Lower Saxony, featuring one Nordex N163 machine rated at 7 MW; the Hünxe wind farm in North Rhine-Westphalia, comprising four Siemens Gamesa turbines at 6.6 MW each; and the Willingen wind farm in Hesse, made up of four Nordex N163 turbines at 7 MW each. All three projects are scheduled to be commissioned between autumn 2027 and autumn 2028.

The May 2026 tender round saw the Federal Network Agency award a total of 270 contracts with a combined capacity of approximately 2.5 gigawatts. The average award price came in at 5.06 cents per kilowatt hour, a decline from 5.54 cents per kilowatt hour recorded in the previous round.

 

Two Wind Farm Sales Completed in Germany

In recent weeks, ABO Energy has also concluded the sale of two wind farms currently under construction in Germany. The repowering project Marpingen in Saarland, consisting of two Vestas V162 turbines rated at 6 MW each, was sold to Encavis.

 

A single Nordex N163 turbine of 6.8 MW located in Großenlüder was acquired by KB Renewables. Both projects are scheduled to be commissioned by mid-2027. In Großenlüder, the buyer has additionally acquired the rights to up to four further turbines that remain in the planning stage.

Kranenburg Legal Barrier Cleared, Unna Permit Granted

A significant legal obstacle has been removed for the Kranenburg wind farm, a project ABO Energy has been planning since 2014. The district of Kleve had filed a lawsuit against the designation of wind energy priority zones and EU acceleration areas in the area, but that legal challenge has now been dismissed by the Higher Administrative Court in Münster. Following the ruling, ABO Energy has submitted a permit application for eleven Nordex N175 turbines rated at 7 MW each at the site.

In a separate development in North Rhine-Westphalia, the company has received a permit for the third turbine at the Unna wind farm. The Unna project, which was already partially approved, is now fully permitted at three Nordex N175 turbines rated at 6.8 MW each.

Solar and Battery Storage Projects Initiated for Sale

ABO Energy has initiated the sale of four solar projects in Germany, each paired with battery storage. The Würges solar park in Hesse, rated at 13 MWp with 13 MW of storage capacity, is currently under construction.

 

The Schlangenbad project, also in Hesse at 20 MWp with 16 MW of storage, is described as soon to be ready for construction. The Ober-Olm project in Rhineland-Palatinate, recently approved, carries a capacity of 18.9 MWp paired with 14.2 MW of storage. The Schömberg project in Baden-Württemberg, rated at 6.95 MWp with 6 MW of storage, is set to have its solar park commissioned in July 2026.

Spain Hybrid Strategy Reaches 433 MW in Agreements

In Spain, ABO Energy is advancing a development strategy centred on hybrid projects that combine wind and solar parks sharing existing grid connections. The company states this approach is gaining importance in the Spanish market due to limited grid capacities and declining revenues in the photovoltaic sector.

 

To date, ABO Energy has concluded hybridization agreements totalling 433 MW, under which its wind projects are combined with solar parks developed by partner companies.

The most recent deal in Spain involves a 70 MW wind project in Palencia, for which ABO Energy has signed a hybridization agreement linking it with two solar projects of 50 MW each. Those two solar projects were also developed by ABO Energy and have been sold to a major Spanish utility-scale company.

Colombia Solar Portfolio Sold to NOVVA Group

In Colombia, ABO Energy has agreed to sell a solar portfolio of 37.8 MWac to NOVVA Group. The projects, described as being at an advanced stage of development, are located in the Andean highlands of central Colombia and are scheduled to be commissioned in early 2028.

ABO Energy Managing Director Dr. Thomas Treiling said the awarded contracts and project sales sent an important signal in an increasingly competitive renewable energy market.
