Ksi Lisims LNG and SEFE Securing Energy for Europe, the German state-backed energy company, have signed a binding liquefied natural gas sale and purchase agreement, marking SEFE's first such agreement with a Canadian LNG supplier.

The deal was announced October 26, 2026, in Vancouver.

SEFE Signs 20-Year LNG Supply Agreement

Under the terms of the agreement, SEFE will purchase one million tonnes per annum of LNG on a free-on-board basis for a period of 20 years, with deliveries expected to begin in the early 2030s.

The binding agreement follows a Heads of Agreement that the two parties signed in May 2026.

Project Progresses Toward Full Commercialization

With the SEFE deal in place, Ksi Lisims LNG now holds binding contracts covering 7 million tonnes per annum of its planned 12 million tonnes per annual capacity. The project has additionally secured preliminary agreements for another 2 million tonnes per annum.

According to the announcement, the project remains on track to reach full commercialization by the end of the year.

Executives Highlight Energy Security and Diversification

Davis Thames, Founder, President, and CEO of Western LNG, said the company looks forward to working with SEFE to provide its customers with reliable, low-carbon LNG. "Secure and diversified energy supply is fundamental to global economic prosperity, and our project is uniquely positioned to meet these priorities," Thames said. He added that momentum behind the project is stronger than at any point in its development.

Frédéric Barnaud, SEFE's Chief Commercial Officer, described the agreement as an important step in further diversifying SEFE's global LNG portfolio and securing reliable long-term energy supplies for its customers. "Together with Ksi Lisims, we will help strengthen energy security while advancing the transition to a more sustainable energy system," Barnaud said.

Nisga'a Nation Emphasizes Partnership Model

Eva Clayton, President of the Nisga'a Lisims Government, said each new agreement brings the project closer to construction and closer to the jobs, training, and long-term revenue the Nation's people have worked toward for generations.

As a co-developer of the project, the Nation is demonstrating, according to Clayton, that Canada's resources can reach world markets in a way that respects its lands and rights. "SEFE's commitment shows the world is ready for that kind of partnership," Clayton said.

Federal Government Touts Trade Diversification Goals

The Honourable Tim Hodgson, Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, called the agreement a powerful vote of confidence in Canadian energy.

He said that with SEFE committing to purchase Canadian LNG for the next 20 years, the country's ambition to diversify trade, strengthen transatlantic energy security, and make Canada a global energy superpower is translating into real commercial results.

Hodgson noted that Ksi Lisims LNG, led by the Nisga'a Nation, demonstrates how Indigenous partnerships, Canadian energy expertise, and federal initiatives such as the Major Projects Office can come together to build major projects, create well-paying jobs, and open new markets for Canadian resources.
