QatarEnergy has entered into a long-term Sale and Purchase Agreement with Woodside Energy (LA) Investments LLC for the purchase of 3 million tons per annum of liquefied natural gas from the Louisiana LNG project, which is located along the United States Gulf Coast and is currently under construction.
The company announced the agreement from Doha on 29 October 2026.
Terms of the Agreement
Under the terms of the SPA, deliveries will be made on a free-on-board basis, meaning the cargoes will be handed over at the point of loading.
Deliveries are anticipated to commence in 2030 and to continue for 20 years. The volume covered by the agreement is 3 MTPA, drawn from the Louisiana LNG project, which remains under construction.
The counterparty to the agreement is Woodside Energy (LA) Investments LLC, referred to in the announcement as Woodside Energy. The agreement is described as a long-term SPA, and the 20-year delivery term is among the central commercial features disclosed.
Signing Ceremony
The signing of the agreement was celebrated at a ceremony attended by His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, who serves as the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and as President and CEO of QatarEnergy.
Also attending was Ms. Liz Westcott, the CEO and Managing Director of Woodside Energy.

Minister's Remarks on U.S. Portfolio
Commenting on the occasion, Minister Al-Kaabi said QatarEnergy was pleased to further enhance its global supply and trading portfolio with another long-term purchase of LNG from the United States.
He stated that the additional volumes make QatarEnergy the largest buyer of LNG from the U.S. and place the company in a stronger position to meet the growing global needs for LNG.
Al-Kaabi also pointed to the company's Golden Pass LNG project alongside its expanding portfolio of U.S. LNG purchases. In his words, these reinforce QatarEnergy's leadership in the LNG industry and support its long-term growth and diversification strategy.
Strategic Rationale
According to the announcement, the SPA reflects QatarEnergy's continued confidence in the long-term role of LNG in the global energy mix. It also reflects the company's strategy to further develop a flexible, diversified, and globally competitive LNG portfolio.
The description of the portfolio as flexible, diversified, and globally competitive mirrors the language used by the minister, who framed the new purchase as an addition to QatarEnergy's global supply and trading activities.
The announcement presents the Louisiana LNG volumes as part of a broader pattern of U.S. LNG purchases rather than as a standalone transaction.
Project Status and Timeline
The Louisiana LNG project is located along the United States Gulf Coast and is described as currently under construction.
The announcement does not provide further detail on the project's construction schedule or capacity beyond the volumes covered by this agreement. The only timing provided for deliveries is that they are anticipated to begin in 2030 and run for a period of 20 years.
The FOB delivery basis means that responsibility for shipping the LNG from the U.S. Gulf Coast would rest with the buyer under the terms described, though the announcement does not elaborate on shipping arrangements or the destination markets for the cargoes.
Details Not Disclosed
The announcement does not disclose the financial value of the agreement, the pricing formula, or the specific destination of the LNG volumes.
It likewise does not specify how the 3 MTPA relates to the overall capacity of the Louisiana LNG project, nor does it describe any other commercial terms of the SPA beyond the delivery basis, volume, start timing, and duration.
QatarEnergy's statement focuses instead on the strategic context of the deal, positioning it within the company's global LNG supply and trading portfolio and its stated long-term growth and diversification strategy.
The minister's description of QatarEnergy as the largest buyer of LNG from the U.S. is presented as a direct result of the additional volumes secured under this agreement.
Golden Pass Reference
In his remarks, Minister Al-Kaabi cited the Golden Pass LNG project together with the company's expanding portfolio of U.S. LNG purchases as reinforcing QatarEnergy's leadership in the LNG industry.
The announcement does not provide further detail on Golden Pass in this context beyond its mention as part of the supporting rationale for the company's U.S.-focused strategy.
The agreement with Woodside Energy adds to what the minister called an expanding set of U.S. LNG purchases. The announcement frames the deal as consistent with QatarEnergy's approach of building a flexible and globally competitive LNG portfolio capable of responding to growing global demand for the fuel.
