QatarEnergy signed two long-term Sale and Purchase Agreements (SPAs) with Cheniere on 22 October 2026 for the purchase of up to 4 million tons per annum (MTPA) of LNG from Cheniere's Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi facilities, located along the United States Gulf Coast in the states of Louisiana and Texas, respectively.

LNG Deliveries Scheduled From 2031 to 2054

Under the terms of the SPAs, deliveries will be on an FOB basis and are anticipated to commence in 2031 and continue through 2054.

The agreements were signed by His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs; the President and CEO of QatarEnergy; and Mr. Jack Fusco, Chairman, President, and CEO of Cheniere Energy, Inc.

QatarEnergy Highlights Strategic Significance of the Deal

Commenting on the signing, His Excellency Minister Al-Kaabi said, "The signing of these two SPAs marks an important milestone in our LNG strategy. This major long-term purchase will expand and diversify our global LNG portfolio and advance our ability to meet the evolving requirements of the market."

He added, "The additional volumes will complement QatarEnergy's existing LNG supplies, enhance our supply and trading portfolio, and strengthen our ability to serve customers across the globe."

According to the announcement, the two SPAs reflect QatarEnergy's continued confidence in the long-term role of LNG in the global energy mix and its efforts to further develop a flexible, diversified, and globally competitive LNG portfolio.

Details of the Agreements

The SPAs cover LNG to be sourced from two of Cheniere's U.S. Gulf Coast facilities. The Sabine Pass facility is located in the State of Louisiana, while the Corpus Christi facility is located in the State of Texas. The combined volume committed under the two agreements amounts to up to 4 MTPA, making the arrangement a significant addition to QatarEnergy's LNG purchasing activities.

The FOB delivery basis means that the LNG will be delivered on board vessels at the loading facilities, with transportation arrangements handled separately from the purchase agreements themselves. The anticipated delivery window, beginning in 2031 and extending through 2054, spans a period of more than two decades.

A Milestone in QatarEnergy's LNG Strategy

The signing ceremony in Doha brought together the leadership of both companies, with Minister Al-Kaabi representing QatarEnergy and Jack Fusco signing on behalf of Cheniere Energy, Inc. The announcement was published through QatarEnergy's Media Center, accompanied by photographs documenting the signing occasion.

The agreements represent a notable step in the relationship between the Qatari state energy company and the U.S. LNG producer, adding U.S.-sourced volumes alongside QatarEnergy's existing LNG supplies. As stated in the company's announcement, the purchase is intended to expand and diversify the company's global LNG portfolio and to enhance its supply and trading capabilities in serving customers around the world.
