ENERCON Secures 440 MW Canadian Framework Deal for E-175 EP5 E2 Turbines.
German wind turbine manufacturer ENERCON has signed a framework agreement covering more than 440 megawatts of capacity in Canada, marking one of the largest confirmed commitments for the company's newest flagship turbine platform in the North American market.
The deal, concluded in late April 2026 with an undisclosed customer, will see more than 60 units of the E-175 EP5 E2 turbine deployed across multiple onshore wind projects in the country, with initial deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027.
Deal Details and Scope
The framework agreement stipulates that the Canadian wind projects covered under its terms will be developed exclusively using ENERCON turbines. The company has not disclosed the identity of the customer or the specific locations of the projects to be developed under the arrangement.
The E-175 EP5 E2 carries a rated power of 7.0 megawatts and features a rotor diameter of 175 meters. ENERCON describes the machine as among the highest-yielding onshore wind turbines currently available and positions it as the cornerstone of the company's current product portfolio and overall market strategy.
The turbine recently received the Gold Medal at the Turbines of the Year award presented by the industry publication Windpower Monthly.
Cold Climate Adaptations for Canadian Conditions
Turbines destined for the Canadian market will be outfitted with ENERCON's Cold Climate Package and a blade heating system, modifications designed to address the operational demands of Canada's northern climate. The company has stated that the turbines will fully comply with all applicable Canadian certification requirements before deployment begins.
The cold climate configuration is a notable feature of the supply arrangement, reflecting the technical adjustments required to operate large-scale wind turbines in environments subject to low temperatures and icing conditions. No further technical specifications regarding the Cold Climate Package were provided in the announcement.

Strategic Significance for ENERCON's International Rollout
ENERCON has described the agreement as an important milestone in the international market rollout of the E-175 EP5 E2. The company frames Canada as a key strategic market and points to more than 25 years of operational experience and established partnerships in the country as foundational to its continued presence there.
ENERCON CEO Udo Bauer commented directly on the strategic rationale behind the deal. "Canada is a key strategic market for ENERCON. With the E-175 EP5 E2, we are bringing our most advanced turbine platform to a country where we have built long-standing partnerships and deep operational experience over the past 25 years," Bauer said.
He added that the company is fully committed to Canada's clean energy transition and expressed anticipation for additional business opportunities beyond the current agreement.
Bauer also pointed to the product fit as a driver of the deal. "This framework agreement shows: The E-175 EP5 E2 is the optimal fit for the Canadian market," he said.
Turbine Certification and Recent Developments
The Canadian framework agreement comes shortly after ENERCON received type certificates for the E-175 EP5 from TÜV Süd, a certification body that presented the documents during the WindEurope trade fair in Madrid in late April 2026.
Alongside the certification news, ENERCON announced yield increases and further improvements for the turbine model. The company separately reported at WindEurope that the E-175 EP5 E2 had achieved improvements in annual energy production and reference yield of up to 2.8 percent.
Earlier in April 2026, ENERCON's center of excellence in Magdeburg began ramping up series production of E-175 EP5 E2 generators, a step the company described as part of scaling manufacturing capacity for the platform.
