Offshore wind engineering consultancy Wood Thilsted has been awarded the foundation. Detailed design contract for the Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind Project, one of the UK's largest planned offshore wind developments.
A Continued Role on One of the UK's Largest Planned Offshore Wind Projects
The announcement, made in London on 19 October 2026, follows the consultancy's successful completion of Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) activities for the project earlier this year and sees the company continue its support into the next key phase of project delivery.
Once built, the 1.5GW offshore wind farm will be one of the largest in the UK, generating enough electricity to power 1.6 million homes. The site will be located 33 miles off the Lincolnshire coast.
Scope of the Detailed Design Contract
Under the contract, Wood Thilsted will undertake the detailed design of up to 100 monopile foundations. The company will integrate expertise in site conditions, structural performance, constructability, and environmental stewardship to support the efficient delivery of the project.
Matthew Simms, Project Director at Wood Thilsted, said that securing the detailed design scope reflects the strength of the collaboration the company has built with the Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind team over the past two years.
According to Simms, having developed a deep understanding of the site and project requirements through FEED, the consultancy is well positioned to help deliver foundation solutions that balance technical excellence, efficient execution, and environmental stewardship.
Simms also noted that as offshore wind projects continue to scale in both size and complexity, effective foundation design relies on a holistic understanding of the site, subsurface conditions, structural requirements, and installation constraints.
Bringing these disciplines together within a single team, alongside the knowledge gained throughout project development, helps create more efficient and robust engineering solutions, he said.

Development Consortium and Economic Contribution
Outer Dowsing is being developed by a consortium comprising TotalEnergies, Macquarie and Broadhelm Renewables, and Gulf Development. The project is estimated to generate approximately USD 2.6 billion of UK investment over its lifetime.
Beyond its capital investment, the project is expected to support thousands of skilled jobs during construction and hundreds more throughout more than three decades of operations, delivering lasting economic value to UK communities and supply chains.
