ACCIONA Energía has completed the commissioning and start of commercial operations of its Opor and Boraja II wind farms in Croatia, adding a combined 72MW of capacity to the country's electricity system. Opor, with a capacity of 27 MW, and Boraja II, at 45 MW, have both begun supplying electricity to the national grid through Hrvatski Operator Tržišta Energije (HROTE), the Croatian energy market operator.
The announcement, dated 19 October 2026, marks the completion of a development process that has now transitioned into full commercial service. Both facilities are feeding clean electricity directly into the Croatian grid under the terms of long-term contractual arrangements with the state market operator.
Project locations and turbine technology
The Opor wind farm is located in the Split-Dalmatia region and features six turbines. Boraja II is situated in the neighbouring Šibenik-Knin region and comprises ten turbines. Both projects use the same turbine platform: 4.5MW Nordex machines mounted on 105-meter steel towers.
The shared technology across the two sites means the farms represent a consistent engineering approach, with sixteen Nordex turbines in total now operating across the two locations in Croatia's Dalmatian interior.
Twelve-year contracts for difference
Both wind farms are linked to 12-year contracts for difference (CfDs), awarded through a public auction under a programme launched by the Croatian Government and HROTE and approved by the European Commission to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy.
Under the CfD mechanism, a reference price is guaranteed for the electricity generated by the projects. This provides revenue stability for the wind farms and reduces their exposure to volatility in wholesale electricity market prices. The structure gives the projects a predictable income stream over the twelve-year contract period while insulating them from short-term price swings in the market.

Employment and environmental impact
During peak construction activity, the Opor and Boraja II wind farms created up to 400 direct jobs. Once fully operational, the two projects are expected to generate around 203GWh of clean electricity annually.
In terms of emissions, the combined output of the two wind farms will prevent the release of approximately 135,000 tonnes of CO₂ each year, according to figures provided by the company.
Expanding a Croatian footprint
The commissioning of Opor and Boraja II strengthens ACCIONA Energía's existing presence in Croatia. The company has owned and operated the Jelinak wind farm, a 30 MW facility also located in the Split-Dalmatia region, since 2013.
With the two new wind farms online, ACCIONA Energía now has 102MW of installed wind power capacity in the country. Its Croatian portfolio is set to grow further beyond wind: the company is also building the Promina solar plant, a 189MWp project in the Šibenik-Knin region, the same region where Boraja II is located.
Auction-backed model for renewables growth
The CfD programme under which Opor and Boraja II were awarded their contracts forms part of Croatia's policy framework for accelerating renewable energy deployment. The auction process, run jointly by the Croatian Government and HROTE, required European Commission approval before implementation.
For ACCIONA Energía, the two wind farms represent the company's first new wind capacity in Croatia since Jelinak entered service in 2013, tripling its installed wind base in the country from 30 MW to 102 MW.
The addition comes alongside the company's continued construction of the Promina solar plant, indicating an expanding multi-technology portfolio in the Croatian market spanning both wind and solar generation.
