The UK government provides USD 2.5 billion in subsidies for 11 green hydrogen projects with a total capacity of 125 MW. The projects will be located in England, Wales, and Scotland. Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho announced the financial backing of 11 green hydrogen projects.

The successful projects, in exchange for this government support, will invest over EUR 400 million over the next three years and will generate over 700 jobs in local communities throughout the United Kingdom.

“We remain committed to our ambition of having up to 1 GW of electrolytic hydrogen in construction or operation by the end of 2025,” the UK government said. The UK government made this decision several months after the Energy Act, which included a funding mechanism for the green hydrogen industry.

The projects have reached an agreement on a weighted average strike price of USD 304.64/MWh. The price was determined by "the total hydrogen volumes anticipated to be produced by each project over the life of the LCHA (low-carbon hydrogen agreement) contract.". The selected projects include:

Barrow Green Hydrogen

• Funding: EUR 40 million

Bradford Low Carbon Hydrogen

• Capacity: 24.5 megawatts (MW)
• Developer: Hygen Energy
• Location: Bradford, Yorkshire, England

Cromarty Hydrogen

• Capacity: 10.6 MW
• Developers: Scottish Power and Storegga
• Location: Cromarty Firth, Scotland

Green Hydrogen 3

• Capacity: 10.6 MW
• Developer: HYRO (RES/Octopus)
• Location:  South East

Hybont

• Capacity: 5.2 MW
• Developer: Marubeni Europower
• Location: Pembroke Dock, Wales

HyMarnham

• Capacity: 9.3 MW
• Developer: JG Pears and GeoPura
• Location: East Midlands 

Langage Green Hydrogen

• Capacity: 7 MW
• Developer: Carlton Power
