Deutsche Telekom is continuing to expand its AI partner ecosystem. T-Systems and the Dresden-based AI infrastructure company Sparxity (formerly SpiNNcloud Systems GmbH) have agreed to cooperate, signing a Letter of Intent (LoI) at the German Federal Government's Digital Summit.

Aim of the Agreement

The aim of the agreement is to combine Sparxity's sparse-native computing technology with T-Systems' data center infrastructure and operational expertise.

The signing was attended by Karsten Wildberger, the Federal Minister for Digital Transformation and Government Modernization; Hector A. Gonzalez, co-founder and CEO of Sparxity; and Ferri Abolhassan, CEO of T-Systems.

Sparxity Technology in Deutsche Telekom's Data Centers

The two companies intend to jointly develop and deploy the next generation of energy-efficient AI computing infrastructure in Europe. Sparxity's technologies are used for so-called energy-saving and demand-driven "sparse computation," an approach that involves directing computing power exactly where it is needed.

In a first step, Sparxity's current hardware will be used to jointly develop approaches for the technical integration of the next generation of Sparxity chips in data centers.

The first deployment is targeted for 2028, in combination with T-Systems' data center infrastructure and partner ecosystem. Building on this, the two companies plan to develop high-performance, energy-efficient AI computing systems for future applications and to optimize them for specific use cases. The details of the collaboration will be agreed upon in the coming months.

Minister: Digital Sovereignty Is Feasible in Germany

Karsten Wildberger, the Federal Minister for Digital Transformation and Government Modernization, welcomed the cooperation as evidence of Germany's capacity for technological independence.

"The project shows that digital sovereignty is feasible in Germany, if we combine our own technological expertise with efficient infrastructure and strong partners," Wildberger said. "The Digital Summit gives such cooperation an important impetus and brings together the players who are shaping Germany's digital future."

Sparxity CEO Highlights Energy Efficiency and Scalability

Hector A. Gonzalez, co-founder and CEO of Sparxity, emphasized the efficiency advantages of the company's technology. "Our computing technology is designed to concentrate computing power only where it is needed. This makes AI more energy-efficient and scalable," Gonzalez said. "The current generation of our systems are already deployed in Europe and the United States. We see great potential in partnering with T-Systems to bring our next-generation chip into datacenter deployments."

Sparxity describes itself as a company that builds sparse-native compute for AI under the principle of computing "only what matters."

The company notes that for years, models have been shaped by the dense hardware they run on, and it builds the hardware that lets them go further: full-stack systems, from custom chips to software, built for fine-grained, dynamic sparsity, where intelligence scales without trading off speed or efficiency. Sparxity systems are already deployed in rack- and supercomputer-scale installations across Europe and the US.

T-Systems Points to T Cloud and Munich AI Factory

Ferri Abolhassan, CEO of T-Systems and Member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Telekom AG, framed the partnership in terms of Europe's need for economically viable AI infrastructure. "Germany and Europe need a powerful AI infrastructure that can be operated and scaled economically," Abolhassan said.

"With our T Cloud portfolio and our AI factory in Munich, we have created the basis for this. We are open to further partners and are looking forward to having Sparxity on board in our AI factory soon. The German company scores particularly well with its energy-efficient use of AI computing power."

A Growing AI Partner Ecosystem

The agreement with Sparxity forms part of Deutsche Telekom's broader effort to expand its AI partner ecosystem. By bringing together Sparxity's energy-efficient chips and computing systems with T-Systems' data center operations and its Munich AI factory, the cooperation is positioned as a contribution to Europe's sovereign AI infrastructure.

The next milestone in the partnership is expected to be the detailed agreements on the collaboration, which the companies plan to negotiate in the coming months, followed by a targeted first deployment of the next-generation Sparxity chips in 2028.

Stay Ahead of Europe's Data Center Boom

Europe's data center pipeline is expanding faster than ever, driven by cloud adoption, AI workloads, and stringent sustainability mandates. But how do you know which hyperscale and colocation projects are actually moving forward, and when?

Tracking dozens of markets, from Frankfurt to Dublin to the Nordics, requires more than scattered news alerts. It demands a single, structured source of intelligence covering every stage of the project lifecycle.
