The developers of the world's largest offshore windfarm, Dogger Bank, awarded green hydrogen engineering contracts tied to Dogger Bank D. SSE Renewables and Equinor awarded the contracts to Genesis, H2GO Power, and Fichtner. Dogger Bank D is the potential fourth phase of the Dogger Bank wind farm, located in the UK. The expansion project is still in the early planning stages.

Offshore Green Hydrogen

The study will investigate a wide range of interconnected factors that are necessary for the efficient operation of a prospective green hydrogen manufacturing facility. These factors will include the size of the offshore wind farm, the capacity of electrolysis, the availability of water for transport and storage, and the option to offtake.

Genesis was selected to deliver a technology-agnostic concept and engineering design study, while H2GO Power and Fichtner Consulting engineers were awarded contracts for value chain optimization for the green hydrogen offtake option.

The developers aim to advance Dogger Bank D so that it can produce green hydrogen and renewable energy. Once completed, the green hydrogen facility could become one of the largest green hydrogen project in Europe. The project will contribute to the UK Government’s green hydrogen target to achieve 5 GW by 2030.

The developers are making substantial investments to ensure that a potential green hydrogen production facility is properly configured for safe and efficient operation, as this is the first project of its kind in the United Kingdom. Rob Cussons, project manager, stated that the green hydrogen project requires leading specialists to support and shape this ambitious project.

Details About Dogger Bank D

Dogger Bank

This is a potential fourth phase of the Dogger Bank Offshore Wind Farm, still in the early planning stages. While not yet officially confirmed, it's being explored as a way to further expand the project and potentially generate even more renewable energy. The proposed site for the wind farm is approximately 210 kilometers (130 miles) northeast of the northeast coast of England. The developers expect around 2 GW of power generation, adding to the overall capacity of the Dogger Bank complex.
