Project Details
Dogger Bank Wind Farm Project is an upcoming offshore wind farm in the United Kingdom. Once operational, the 3.6 GW wind station will be the world's largest and most intricately designed offshore infrastructure.
This project is capable of powering at least 6 million homes annually. It will be constructed in three phases each with a capacity of 1.2 GW. The phases are known as Dogger Dank A, Dogger Bank B, and Dogger Bank C.
- Dogger Bank A (formerly Creyke Beck A) (with 95 wind turbines)
- Dogger Bank B (formerly Creyke Beck B) (with 95 wind turbines)
- Dogger Bank C (formerly Dogger Bank Teesside A) (with 87 wind turbines)

The fourth phase called Dogger Bank D has also been proposed recently. The first phase has recently started producing electricity as well. While doing so, the UK has become the first country to use high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology to transmit the power generated to the UK's national grid.
Dogger Bank Wind Farm generates power through the GE Vernova’s Haliade-X turbine each with a capacity of 13 MW turbines was started. These turbines are considered to be the largest and most powerful in the whole world. The UK is the first ever nation to use Haliade-X turbines for an offshore wind farm. The blades of the Haliade-X wind turbine are 107m long and it is said that each rotation of these blades can produce power for British homes for at least two days.
Dogger Bank Wind Farm Project is being developed and built by a joint venture comprising Equinor, SSE Renewables, and Vårgrønn (a joint venture of Eni Plenitude and HitecVision). For the construction and development phase, SSE Renewables are the main operator whereas, for the rest of the life of this dogger bank project which is estimated to be 35 years, Equinor will be the main operator. Vårgrønn is said to bring specialists for offshore wind expertise for this wind project.
Benefits of the Project
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak addressed the crowd in a recent interview about the Dogger Bank Offshore Wind Farm Project and said that this project will be very profitable for the country as it is the world's largest offshore wind farm. It plays a vital role in boosting energy security, creating employment, lowering costs, and helping in achieving net zero.
The turbines installed are capable of producing clean energy to 16,000 households and save about 42 million tonnes of CO2 which is equal to 9,000 vehicle emissions in a year. This project is the largest single source of renewable energy. The Dogger Bank Wind Farm Project completion date is estimated to be in 2026.
Project Cost
The estimated cost of this world's largest wind farm which is under construction is estimated to be 11 billion dollars. The investment for the Dogger Banks A and B will amount to approximately USD 8 billion dollars and for phase three it will be about USD 3.64 billion. According to the official website of the Dogger Bank, there are a total of 29 banks and three export credit agencies involved in the final group of lenders.
