Semarak Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd (SeRenE), a leading Malaysian renewable energy solutions provider, has secured a substantial USD 400 million (RM1.88 billion) financing package from Capitale Ventures to construct a 60 MW green hydrogen plant in Perak, Malaysia. The facility is projected to produce 6,000 metric tons of green hydrogen annually.
SeRenE previously finalized an engineering procurement and construction contract with PowerChina, a prominent Chinese construction firm. Construction of the project is scheduled to commence in the final quarter of 2024.Since entering the Malaysian market in 1993, PowerChina has successfully undertaken over 150 projects with a total contract value exceeding USD 7 billion.
The project has attracted significant attention from international investors who recognize the potential of hydrogen as a clean and viable energy source. Mohammad Shahil Ishak, SeRenE's managing director, emphasized the interest, stating, "The project has garnered substantial interest from foreign investors who understand the transformative potential of hydrogen in shaping the future of energy."
The project utilizes innovative floating photovoltaic power generation technology. This technology harnesses the power of the sun on water bodies, offering a sustainable and efficient solution for powering the green hydrogen production process.
This development marks a major step forward in Malaysia's ambitions to become a leader in green hydrogen production and harness the potential of this clean energy source for the future.
