Ridge Clean Energy (a renewable energy company) has submitted a planning application for a six-turbine onshore wind farm in East Riding of Yorkshire, positioning the project as one of the first new English onshore wind developments to come forward following the Government's recent planning reforms.

Project Details and Location

The proposed development, called the Three Oaks Renewable Energy Park Extension, would be located between Thornholme and Haisthorpe and would add up to 25.2 megawatts of wind generation capacity.

 

The extension is designed to sit alongside the already consented Three Oaks Renewable Energy Park, creating what the developer describes as a hybrid renewable energy park combining multiple technologies on a single site.

When combined with the existing consented project, the overall development would incorporate 39 megawatts of solar photovoltaic generation, 50 megawatt-hours of battery energy storage, and the new onshore wind capacity. Ridge Clean Energy says the project could generate enough renewable electricity to power approximately 24,000 homes.

The application has been submitted to East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which will now consider it through the formal planning process.

 

One of the First Under England's Revised Planning Framework

Ridge Clean Energy described the submission as one of the first new English onshore wind projects to emerge following the Government's planning reforms. Onshore wind development in England had faced significant restrictions for over a decade before recent policy changes opened the door to new projects coming through the local planning system.

Richard Barker, Project Manager at Ridge Clean Energy, said the submission represents an important milestone for the project and reflects the growing opportunity for responsibly developed onshore wind in England.

 

He said the combination of wind generation with the already approved Three Oaks Renewable Energy Park creates the opportunity for a highly efficient hybrid renewable energy park capable of delivering clean, secure, and locally generated electricity for decades to come.

Community Consultation Process

The planning submission follows what Ridge Clean Energy describes as extensive environmental assessments, technical surveys and community consultation. Public exhibitions were held in three local villages: Burton Agnes, Carnaby, and Rudston.

 

The developer said that feedback gathered during the consultation process played an important role in shaping the final proposals submitted to the council. Barker thanked residents, businesses, landowners, and stakeholders who engaged throughout the consultation period.

Community Benefit Fund Proposed

If the application is approved, Ridge Clean Energy has proposed a Community Benefit Fund valued at £126,000 per year. Over the projected 40-year lifespan of the project, that would amount to more than USD 6.71 million directed toward the local area.

The developer has outlined two primary uses for the funding. The first is a Local Energy Discount Scheme aimed at providing financial relief to nearby households on their energy costs.

 

The second is a broader Community Benefit Fund intended to support tangible local projects and initiatives, though specific eligible projects or governance arrangements for the fund were not detailed in the planning submission announcement.

The USD 6.71 community benefit commitment follows a pattern established by Ridge Clean Energy across other projects in its portfolio. The company previously announced a USD 6.71 community funding commitment in July 2025 when it first proposed the Three Oaks wind turbine plans, before formal submission of the planning application.

Ridge Clean Energy's Broader Portfolio

Ridge Clean Energy, which is based in Oxfordshire, describes itself as a community-first renewable energy developer. The Three Oaks Extension submission comes as the company has been active across multiple projects in England and Scotland.

In May 2025, Ridge Clean Energy received full planning consent for its Ladyfield Renewable Energy Park, a 99-megawatt onshore wind and battery energy storage project.

 

That project had previously cleared a significant hurdle in the Scottish planning process in January 2025 when its application to the Scottish Government progressed through a key stage.

Earlier in 2026, the company announced that four of its projects were awarded Contracts for Difference in the UK Government's Allocation Round 7, which supports renewable energy projects by guaranteeing a fixed price for the electricity they generate.

The company has also been active in community energy support programmes outside of its direct development activities, including fuel cost support schemes in Cambridgeshire, collaboration with The Footprint Trust on an energy efficiency volunteer programme, and support for climate education through the Ridge Climate Care Awards.
