Harvey Hanna & Associates (HHA), a Delaware-based commercial real estate developer, owner, and manager, announced on October 28, 2026, a partnership with King Energy to develop more than 19 megawatts of rooftop community solar across eight Harvey Hanna properties in New Castle County.

The Newport, Delaware, announcement positions the portfolio as one of the largest community solar initiatives in Delaware, converting more than 1.8 million square feet of existing commercial rooftops into renewable-energy generation sites.

Solar Portfolio Targets 19 MWdc Capacity

The portfolio, currently in development, is projected to represent more than 19.0 Megawatts Direct Current (MWdc) of solar capacity.

Once fully operational, it is expected to generate more than 25.4 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually and avoid an estimated 15.1 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

According to the companies, this emissions reduction is equivalent to removing approximately 1,598 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles from the road for an entire year, based on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency equivalency estimates.

State Support Through the JobsFirst Permitting Accelerator

The partnership received a boost on October 9, when Governor Matt Meyer announced that three of the portfolio's rooftop solar projects, located at Ships Landing Way, Lambson Lane, and Dock View Drive, had been accepted into Delaware's JobsFirst Permitting Accelerator.

Harvey Hanna credited the Governor's leadership in establishing the initiative, which is intended to help advance energy projects and attract private investment to Delaware.

Delaware Expands Community Solar Access for Residents

The announcement arrives as Delaware focuses on expanding energy generation, strengthening the electric grid, and addressing rising energy costs.

By bringing additional generation online through existing commercial properties, the HHA portfolio is positioned to contribute to those efforts while expanding access to community solar for Delaware residents and businesses.

The program is also designed to expand access to clean energy for low- and moderate-income households, allowing residents to benefit from community solar without needing to own a property with a suitable rooftop.

Contribution to Delaware's Renewable Portfolio Standard

Delaware currently imports a significant share of the electricity it consumes, while state energy policy continues to encourage the expansion of renewable generation.

Under the state's Renewable Portfolio Standard, utilities are required to source 40% of their energy from renewable resources by 2035. The HHA and King Energy portfolio is projected to contribute approximately 2.2% of the solar generation Delaware needs to meet that standard.

"Harvey Hanna has been a terrific partner because they recognized the opportunity that exists on their rooftops and took a long-term view of what those properties can contribute," said John Witchel, CEO of King Energy.

"By working together, we're able to turn existing commercial buildings into sources of clean energy while expanding access to community solar for Delaware residents."

Leadership Perspectives

Thomas Harvey, Managing Director of Harvey Hanna & Associates, emphasized the role of the company's existing building stock in the initiative.

"At Harvey Hanna, we believe our buildings can do more than simply provide space for businesses; they can also contribute to the communities around them," Harvey said.

"We have a significant portfolio of commercial rooftops, and this partnership with King Energy gives us an opportunity to put that existing infrastructure to work in a meaningful way. We're excited about the long-term environmental and community benefits this program can provide."

The Eight-Property Portfolio

The eight-property portfolio spans locations in New Castle and Middletown and includes several significant rooftop installations.

The Jamison Corner Road site in New Castle represents the largest single installation at 5,200 kWdc, projected to generate more than 6.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

The 750 Governor Lea Road installation, at 3,300 kWdc, is expected to produce more than 4.2 million kilowatt-hours annually. The 400 Ships Landing Way site, at 2,856.6 kWdc, is expected to produce more than 3.7 million kilowatt-hours of electricity each year.

Five additional properties in New Castle County will complement these three flagship sites, contributing to what the companies describe as one of Delaware's largest commitments to rooftop community solar.

Interconnection and Timeline

All eight projects are located within Delmarva Power's service territory and remain in development, with the installations expected to come online in the coming years.

Harvey Hanna acknowledged Delmarva Power's ongoing engagement with the solar industry and its efforts to support the interconnection of renewable-energy projects, which the company describes as an important part of expanding access to community solar and bringing additional clean-energy generation onto Delaware's electric grid.

For Harvey Hanna, the partnership represents another step in the firm's stated commitment to responsible property ownership, innovation, and community investment across Delaware.

Why U.S. Energy Leaders Monitor Every Megawatt Project Pre-Breakground

The United States is in the middle of its most ambitious power buildout in decades, with grid modernization, utility-scale renewables, gas-fired plants, and transmission corridors all racing against interconnection backlogs and shifting federal incentives.

For developers, EPCs, and equipment suppliers, the difference between winning and watching comes down to knowing which projects are moving, which tenders are live, and which contracts have been awarded, weeks before the competition does.

Manually piecing together project intelligence from utility filings, press releases, and regulatory dockets is slow, error-prone, and leaves you reacting instead of anticipating. The Global Project Tracking (GPT) platform by Blackridge Research solves this by consolidating verified power sector project data across the United States into a single, continuously updated intelligence feed.

From early-stage announcements to final commissioning, you get the full project lifecycle at your fingertips, so your business development, strategy, and procurement teams can act on real opportunities instead of rumors.
