Liberty Global's clean energy infrastructure arm has secured a strategic investment partner for part of its UK renewables portfolio, with Japanese infrastructure investor Tokyo Century agreeing to acquire half of three projects in a deal that also opens the door to further joint investment.
Deal Structure and Scope
egg Power, the clean energy infrastructure business owned by Liberty Global, has signed a strategic investment agreement with Tokyo Century.
Under the terms, Tokyo Century will acquire a 50% stake in three projects within egg Power's portfolio, which together represent a combined capacity of 212 MW.
The three assets are the Grange and Rag Lane solar projects and the Chirmorie Wind Farm. According to the announcement, all three have long-term power purchase agreements in place with companies including Virgin Media O2 and Amazon.
Beyond the immediate transaction, the two companies said they will explore opportunities to jointly invest in additional ready-to-build renewable energy assets across the UK and other markets.
Reinvestment and Financing
Proceeds from the sale of the stakes in the Grange, Rag Lane, and Chirmorie projects will be reinvested into growing egg Power's portfolio.
The new capital adds to USD 532.84 million of non-recourse financing that egg Power secured from NatWest earlier this year, which is intended to allow the continued expansion of its portfolio of ready-to-build renewable energy projects.

egg Power's Perspective
Ilesh Patel, who leads the egg Power business at Liberty Global, described the investment as a strong endorsement of the value and quality of the business egg Power is building.
He said the company was delighted to welcome Tokyo Century to the egg Power family and looked forward to building on the agreements signed to create one of Europe's leading renewable energy and storage platforms.
Patel said that the platform is focused on the growing demand from digital infrastructure, telcos, and other large energy-intensive companies.
He added that the two companies share a vision and values and that their combined experience would bring more solar, wind, and battery projects online, strengthening energy resilience in their markets while delivering economic benefits to communities.
Tokyo Century's Strategic Rationale
Toshihiro Nakanishi, Director at Tokyo Century, said the firm was delighted to partner with egg Power and Liberty Global on the initiative.
He explained that, in line with Tokyo Century's Medium-Term Management Plan 2030, the company has identified its overseas renewable energy business as a key strategic growth area.
Nakanishi said Tokyo Century would capitalise on the insights and experience gained from its investments in solar and onshore wind power assets in the UK, Italy, and other markets to drive further expansion across its overseas renewable energy portfolio.
He said the company remains committed to enhancing its local operational frameworks and working alongside business partners with deep industry expertise to expand that portfolio.
Nakanishi also tied the move to Tokyo Century's corporate purpose, "Shaping Our Blue Planet," saying the company will continue to contribute to the wider adoption of clean energy and the creation of a sustainable, decarbonised society.
Offtake Arrangements
The long-term power purchase agreements underpinning the three assets involve named corporate customers, with Virgin Media O2 and Amazon cited as examples among the companies holding such agreements.
These contracts form part of the context for the transaction, as the three projects were described as having long-term PPAs already in place at the time of the stake sale.
Company Background
egg Power is described as Liberty Global's clean energy infrastructure business. Patel's comments position the unit's strategy around serving demand from digital infrastructure operators, telecommunications companies, and other large energy-intensive customers, with a platform spanning solar, wind, and battery storage.
Media enquiries relating to the announcement are handled by Pádraig McGarrigle at Liberty Global's media relations team. The announcement carries a date of 29 October 2026 and is categorised under company news and infrastructure.
