Greenvolt And Carrefour Property Sign 25 MWp Solar Carport Deal Across 120 Stores In France

Greenvolt Next, a Greenvolt Group company specialised in decentralised renewable energy solutions for the commercial and industrial sectors, has signed an agreement with Carrefour Property to deploy photovoltaic carport installations across retail store car parks fully owned by Carrefour in France.

The deal covers approximately 25 MWp of installed capacity and is expected to involve around 45,000 photovoltaic panels.

A Nationwide Tender Behind the Deal

The agreement follows a national tender launched by Carrefour Property for the development, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of photovoltaic carports across its nationwide portfolio. Greenvolt Next's selection under that process led to the partnership, which is described as long-term.

According to the announcement, the project is expected to be deployed across 120 Carrefour sites primarily located throughout central France. The scale of the planned rollout, at roughly 25 MWp spread over 120 locations, reflects an approach built around store-by-store installations rather than a single large site.

A Turnkey Model From Financing to Operation

Under the partnership, Greenvolt Next will provide a turnkey solution covering the financing, studies, development, construction, operation, and maintenance of the photovoltaic installations.

The company will therefore carry responsibility for the full lifecycle of the carports, from initial studies through to long-term running of the assets. Gino Gauthier, CEO of Distributed Generation Business at Greenvolt Next, pointed to this integrated capability as a deciding factor.

He said the company's fully integrated approach and its ability to deliver a turnkey solution, combining financing, development, construction, and long-term operation, allowed Greenvolt Next to support Carrefour Property in accelerating its energy transition with solutions that are both technically robust and economically efficient.

Designed Around Each Store

Each installation will be adapted to the operational and technical specificities of the individual store, the company said. The factors to be taken into account include car park layouts, underground utilities, customer traffic, continuity of store operations, grid connection, and permitting requirements. The stated aim is to ensure that all the energy generated is consumed locally by the store.

That focus on on-site consumption sets the scheme apart from projects designed primarily to export power to the grid. By matching each system to the layout and operating conditions of the host store, the partners intend for the output to serve the store's own electricity demand.

Decarbonisation and the 2030 Target

The estimated annual production will cover a significant share of the electricity consumption of the relevant stores, according to the announcement. This is expected to contribute to the decarbonisation of Carrefour Property's real estate assets and to achieving the target of consuming 100% renewable energy at Group level by the end of 2030.

Evan Linker, Global Energy Director at Carrefour, said the agreement allows the retailer to accelerate the integration of photovoltaic production across its real estate portfolio in France while improving the experience of its customers and supporting the energy transition of its stores.

He added that, beyond the environmental impact, the partnership provides long-term financial predictability while reinforcing the company's broader sustainability commitments.

Greenvolt Points to a Pan-European Platform

João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group, framed the agreement as evidence of the strength of the Greenvolt Next platform across Europe. He said the partnership with Carrefour Property reflects that pan-European platform and noted the company's direct experience across similar projects with other major retail players.

According to Manso Neto, this gives Greenvolt a proven model that it brings to each market as it supports large-scale players in their energy transition. The comments position the Carrefour agreement as part of a broader strategy in distributed generation, in which retail estates with large car parks provide a natural footprint for rooftop-style generation installed over parking areas.

Scope and Scale at a Glance

The headline figures give a sense of the project's size. Approximately 25 MWp of installed capacity is planned, supported by an estimated 45,000 photovoltaic panels, across up to 120 Carrefour sites. The car parks involved are fully owned by Carrefour in France, and the sites are primarily in central France.

The announcement frames the deployment as expected rather than completed, with the number of sites and panel count presented as estimates. Details on construction timelines, the total investment value, or the financing structure were not provided in the announcement.

Related Activity at Greenvolt Group

The Carrefour agreement was published alongside other recent Greenvolt Group announcements. Related items listed on the company's news page include an agreement to sell two battery storage projects in Poland to A&R Investments, USD 316.69 million in financing secured for a 253.1 MW wind project in Romania, and the start of construction on one of Europe's largest battery energy storage projects.

Together, these items indicate a group active across several segments, with Greenvolt Next's work for commercial and industrial customers such as Carrefour Property sitting within its distributed generation business.
