Repono AB Completes Acquisition of 202 MW Battery Energy Storage Project in Romania
Repono AB, a Sweden-based pan-European energy storage operator, has completed the acquisition of a 202 MW / 404 MWh (2.0 h) standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) project located in Argeș County, Romania, the company announced on October 21, 2025. The transaction establishes a partnership with local developers that foresees additional projects across Romania with a total combined capacity of up to 1.4 GW, reinforcing Repono's long-term commitment to the Romanian energy storage market.
The project was developed by a Bucharest-based renewable energy developer and is ready to build. It benefits from a grid connection contract with Transelectrica at the 220 kV Pitești Substation. Once operational, the facility will be among the largest grid-scale storage assets in Southeast Europe, capable of storing and releasing enough energy to supply more than 120,000 four-person households during peak-demand periods.
Market Operations and Optimization
Gunvor, in collaboration with Enspired, the Vienna-based optimizer, will manage the offtake and market optimization strategy for the project. This partnership aims to ensure efficient integration into the Romanian and regional power markets. The arrangement represents a comprehensive approach to maximizing the project's market participation and revenue potential within the regional energy ecosystem.
