Bute Energy has appointed sustainability consultancy ERM to support the development of the Lan Fawr Energy Park, a major onshore wind project in Mid Wales that is among the first to be brought forward under the country's new infrastructure consenting regime.
The appointment sees ERM take responsibility for the Environmental Impact Assessment and the strategic communications program as the project moves through the planning process. ERM had previously developed the project's scoping report.
Project Scale and Consenting Route
The Lan Fawr Energy Park, referred to as LFEP, has a proposed generating capacity of up to 368.5 MW from up to 55 wind turbines. It is one of the first projects to be brought forward under Wales' new infrastructure consenting regime, a position the announcement describes as representing an important step in the delivery of the country's clean energy ambitions.

Why ERM Was Selected
ERM was appointed because of its combination of strategic and technical expertise and its proven track record in delivering complex infrastructure projects.
Having produced the Scoping Report, the consultancy will now lead both the Environmental Impact Assessment and the strategic communications program as the project advances.

Bute Energy's Ambitions for the Project
James Milner-Smith, Bute Energy's Development Director, said the project forms an important part of the company's ambition to help build a healthier, wealthier Wales powered by clean, homegrown renewable energy.
In addition to generating renewable electricity, he said, the project has the potential to create jobs, support local businesses, invest in skills and provide long-term funding for community priorities through its community benefit fund.
"We're pleased to be working with ERM as we develop the project and look forward to drawing on their expertise and track record to help deliver a project that creates lasting value for communities, the regional economy, and Wales as a whole," Milner-Smith said.
ERM's Perspective on the Appointment
Nick Hilton, Capital Project Delivery Lead for EMEA at ERM, said the appointment reflects the strong relationship the consultancy has developed with Bute Energy during the early stages of project development, along with the collaborative approach that has underpinned work to date.
Hilton said that as the energy transition accelerates, developers must navigate increasingly complex environmental, regulatory and stakeholder considerations.
By combining deep technical expertise with practical delivery experience, he said, ERM looks forward to supporting Bute Energy in advancing LFEP and helping deliver environmental, economic, and energy security benefits for Wales.

Powering the United Kingdom's Energy Transition: Spot the Next Grid-Scale Opportunity Before the Market Does
How do you win work on projects that haven't been publicly announced yet? In the United Kingdom's fast-moving power sector, the advantage often goes to those who see the pipeline first, from offshore wind farms and interconnectors to battery storage hubs and grid modernization programs.
With governments accelerating decarbonization targets and utilities committing record capital to renewables, transmission, and flexible generation, the volume of activity across the United Kingdom can be overwhelming. Fragmented sources, delayed notices, and incomplete data leave suppliers, contractors, investors, and consultants guessing at where to focus their efforts.
The Global Project Tracking (GPT) platform by Blackridge Research brings that complexity into a single, reliable view. Instead of piecing together scattered information, you can follow power projects across their full lifecycle and make confident decisions about bids, partnerships, and market entry. The platform gives you coverage across every stage of the project journey:
