NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VO Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) to promote green energy technologies, with a focus on green hydrogen mobility at VOC Port. The MoU was exchanged between Kishore Kumar Hota, CGM, NTPC, and A Ganesan, CME, VOCPA, in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Tamil Nadu Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Geeta Jeevan, MLA Nainar Nagendran, Secretary (MoPSW) TK Ramachandran, VOCPA Chairman Susanta Kumar Purohit, and senior officials from the Government of Tamil Nadu, NTPC, and VOCPA.
Green Hydrogen Infrastructure Development
As part of the collaboration, NGEL will set up a green hydrogen fuelling station at VOC Port along with hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine trucks for port operations. This initiative is expected to gradually replace fossil fuel-based trucks with clean alternatives, strengthening decarbonisation efforts and energy security.

NTPC's Existing Green Hydrogen Projects
NTPC has already implemented multiple green hydrogen projects across India. The company has a blending initiative at Surat, Gujarat, which has been operational for over two years. Additionally, NTPC has established mobility pilots in Leh (Ladakh), Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), and Kandla Port (Gujarat). NGEL is also developing a green hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
The company has set a target of achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032 with integrated energy storage solutions.
