NetCologne has broken ground on a new data center facility in Lovenich, Cologne. The project is expected to be completed by 2024. The initial phase of the new data center facility comprises around six data halls. The modular design will allow further expansion in the future. NetCologne’s new unit will be used for the telco’s processing as well as hosting customers.

The development will include green facades, photovoltaic systems, and waste heat reuse. NetCologne said it will purchase green electricity from RheinEnergie. Timo von Lepel managing director of NetCologne stated that the new data center will offer data storage and processing services that are secure, regional, and sustainable.

NetCologne operates a large fiber optic network across the greater Cologne/Bonn/Aachen areas. Besides the new project, NetCologne already operates one data center in the city at Nettesheimer which covers an area of 1000 square meters. The company previously launched a 600-square-meter facility in Süsterfeld in 2007.
