Eneva and Vports have formalized the contracts that enable the Hub Espírito Santo project at the Port of Barra do Riacho in Aracruz, in the state of Espírito Santo. The announcement was made by Eneva, which described the agreement as a milestone in its expansion strategy.
Contracts Signed for a Flexible Gas-and-Power Hub
The hub will bring together an LNG regasification terminal and the thermoelectric plants contracted in the 2026 Capacity Reserve Auction (LRCAP 2026). Under the project's design, natural gas will arrive by ship at the terminal and supply the power plants directly, creating an integrated logistics chain from delivery to generation.
The signed contracts guarantee Eneva the right to use the port areas until December 2046, with the possibility of renewal. The company stated that the hub will be developed entirely by Eneva, with 100 percent participation, meaning the project's development sits fully within the company rather than being shared with partners.
Strategic Positioning, According to Eneva
Marcelo Lopes, Eneva's executive director of marketing, commercialization, and new business, characterized the hub as a landmark for the company's expansion plans.
"The Espírito Santo Hub is a milestone in Eneva's expansion strategy. We are implementing infrastructure that combines a 100 percent flexible solution for natural gas supply and power generation in one of the most strategic locations in the country," Lopes said in the company's announcement.
The framing of flexibility is central to how Eneva presents the project. Because the gas is delivered by ship rather than through fixed pipeline arrangements, the company describes the setup as a fully flexible supply solution paired with contracted power generation capacity.
Beyond the contracted plants, Eneva indicated that the infrastructure could also support future opportunities in both the natural gas market and power generation. In the company's own assessment, the hub would contribute to Brazil's energy security and to regional economic development in Espírito Santo.

Part of a Broader LRCAP 2026 Expansion
The Espírito Santo hub does not stand alone within Eneva's portfolio. The company noted that the project joins similar undertakings in Sergipe and Ceará, which were also contracted in the LRCAP 2026 auction and are currently under construction.
With these three projects combined, Eneva stated that it is advancing an expansion of a portfolio that now exceeds 10 gigawatts of contracted installed capacity.
The company did not provide a breakdown of how much capacity each individual project represents, nor did it specify the capacity of the thermoelectric plants to be installed at Barra do Riacho.
What the Project Involves
In summary of what was announced: a regasification terminal for imported LNG, thermoelectric plants from the 2026 Capacity Reserve Auction, land-use rights at the Port of Barra do Riacho running through December 2046 with renewal possible, wholly owned development by Eneva, and a stated possibility of leveraging the infrastructure for additional gas and power opportunities in the future. The company has positioned the project alongside its Sergipe and Ceará hubs as part of a portfolio surpassing 10 gigawatts of contracted capacity.
The company does not specify the construction timeline for the Espírito Santo hub, the number of vessels expected to call at the terminal, or the commercial counterparties involved in the Vports agreements.
