Eiffel Investment Group (asset management firm) and Polish renewable energy developer Ergy have announced a partnership to invest in battery energy storage systems in Poland, with the collaboration kicking off with the 46 MW / 184 MWh Baczyna project in the west of the country.
The Opening Project: Baczyna
The Baczyna project is described by the partners as fully permitted and ready to build. It has secured all major permits, grid connection rights, and a long-term capacity market contract. Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2028.
The project's readiness-to-build status reflects the partners' intention to move quickly into construction rather than absorb the early-stage development risk that often delays infrastructure projects of this kind.
The 46 MW / 184 MWh scale positions Baczyna as a significant grid-scale storage asset by Polish standards. Battery energy storage systems of this capacity are capable of providing meaningful balancing services to a national grid that is in the process of managing an expanding share of intermittent renewable generation alongside a gradual reduction in coal-fired capacity.

Division of Responsibilities
Under the terms of the partnership, each party brings a distinct set of capabilities to the table. Eiffel Investment Group, the Paris-based infrastructure and energy transition investor, will contribute long-term infrastructure investment expertise and capital.
Ergy, which has experience in the Polish renewable energy market, will take responsibility for originating, developing, arranging financing, constructing, and managing the battery storage projects within the portfolio.
The structure reflects a common model in European energy infrastructure investment, pairing an international financial institution with a local developer that holds regulatory knowledge, contractor relationships, and an established project pipeline.
For Ergy, the arrangement also represents a shift in its own business model: co-investing alongside external investors is described by the company as an important milestone in its growth strategy.
Michał Lewczuk, Partner at Ergy, said the firm supports both local and international investors in delivering renewable projects in Poland, and that combining international capital with local expertise is central to the partnership's rationale. "Eiffel's decision to invest in Polish flexibility could not come at a better time," he said.

Poland's Energy Transition as the Investment Backdrop
The announcement comes against the backdrop of a significant transformation in Poland's electricity system. The country has historically relied heavily on coal for power generation, but renewable capacity has been expanding and coal-fired output is gradually declining.
As that transition accelerates, battery storage is expected to take on a more prominent role in balancing supply and demand, maintaining grid resilience, and ensuring security of supply during periods when wind and solar generation is low.
Poland has been identified by both domestic and international energy investors as one of Europe's more dynamic markets for flexibility infrastructure, precisely because the shift away from dispatchable fossil fuel generation creates a growing need for technologies that can absorb excess renewable output and discharge it when the grid requires it.
Zofia Szewczuk, Head of Poland at Eiffel Investment Group, described Poland as "one of the continent's most dynamic energy markets" and said the investment reflects the firm's conviction that storage infrastructure will play a central role in its transformation. "Battery storage is becoming an essential component of Europe's energy transition," she said. "As renewable generation continues to expand, electricity systems require greater flexibility to maintain reliability and resilience."
Ambitions Beyond Baczyna
While Baczyna is the first project under the partnership, both companies have signaled their intention to build a broader portfolio of battery storage assets in Poland. The partners have stated they will consider acquiring additional battery storage projects as demand for flexibility continues to grow across the Polish electricity system.
The language used in the announcement suggests an active acquisition strategy rather than a purely organic development pipeline. By considering existing projects for acquisition alongside those developed internally by Ergy, the partnership could move to scale more quickly than a development-only approach would allow.
This portfolio-building ambition is consistent with the direction of travel seen across European battery storage investment more broadly, where investors are increasingly seeking to aggregate projects under a single management structure to achieve operational efficiencies and present institutional-scale investment opportunities to capital allocators.
European Union Backing Through InvestEU
The partnership has received support from the European Union under the InvestEU Fund, which is designed to mobilise public and private investment in sustainable infrastructure, innovation, and other priority areas across EU member states.
The involvement of InvestEU adds a layer of institutional validation to the project and reflects European policy ambitions around accelerating energy storage deployment as part of the broader clean energy transition.
InvestEU backing can also play a role in de-risking investments for private capital, potentially making it easier to attract additional financing for future projects within the portfolio.
Market Context for Battery Storage in Central Europe
Central and Eastern European electricity markets have generally lagged Western Europe in battery storage deployment, but the pace of activity has been picking up as regulatory frameworks mature and grid operators in the region begin to formalise markets for flexibility services.
Poland's capacity market, which has provided Baczyna with a long-term contract, is one of the mechanisms through which the country is seeking to ensure adequate dispatchable or flexible capacity as its generation mix evolves.
For investors such as Eiffel Investment Group, long-term capacity market contracts of the kind secured by the Baczyna project provide a degree of revenue certainty that is important when underwriting infrastructure assets with operational lives measured in decades.
Combined with the project's fully permitted status, that contract structure reduces two of the most common sources of risk in early-stage energy storage investment: regulatory uncertainty and revenue volatility.
Powering Smarter Decisions Across Poland's Energy Landscape
As Poland accelerates its transition toward cleaner, more resilient energy infrastructure, the volume and complexity of power sector projects has never been greater. Staying ahead of that curve demands more than industry news; it requires structured, reliable intelligence that turns market signals into strategic advantage.
The Global Project Tracking (GPT) platform by Blackridge Research was built precisely for this environment. By consolidating critical project data across Poland's power sector into a single, navigable system, it gives developers, contractors, investors, and consultants the visibility they need to identify opportunities before the competition does.
Whether you are tracking renewable energy expansions, grid modernisation efforts in Poland, or large-scale generation projects, the platform delivers consistent, up-to-date intelligence across the full project lifecycle.
