egg Power, the renewable energy infrastructure arm of Liberty Global, has signed the United Kingdom's largest onshore wind Power Purchase Agreement with Amazon, a deal that will see the e-commerce and cloud computing giant buy 90 megawatts of wind energy from a Scottish wind farm currently moving toward construction.
The Deal and What It Covers
The agreement centres on the Chirmorie Wind Farm, located in South Ayrshire, Scotland. Under the long-term Power Purchase Agreement, Amazon will purchase 90MW of wind energy generated at the site.
egg Power acquired the project rights to Chirmorie earlier this year. The wind farm first received planning approval in 2018, and the company says it is moving quickly toward beginning construction.
The turbines for the project will be sourced from Vestas on the Isle of Wight, and egg Power has indicated that local contractors will be used throughout the build, framing the development as a benefit to both the local and national economy.
The Chirmorie agreement marks the second long-term PPA egg Power has signed in 2026. Earlier this year, Virgin Media O2 agreed to take power from egg Power's Grange solar farm in Suffolk, establishing a pattern of the company locking in telecoms and digital infrastructure clients as anchor buyers for its renewable energy projects.
Part of a Broader Renewables Push
The Amazon deal sits within a significantly larger portfolio that egg Power is assembling across the United Kingdom and Europe. The company has stated an ambition to deliver over 1,500MW of clean energy capacity by 2028, all structured under long-term PPAs.
To support that pipeline, egg Power secured a USD 528.72 million non-recourse debt financing facility with NatWest in January of this year. That facility is earmarked for the 250MW of solar and wind farms the company currently has under construction or in development, and is structured to support up to 500MW of projects in total across the UK and Europe.
Beyond Chirmorie, egg Power has also acquired the rights to three solar projects across the United Kingdom: the Grange farm in Suffolk, which is already tied to the Virgin Media O2 agreement, as well as Rainsbrook and Rag Lane.
The company has described these solar projects as contributing to the UK's energy security by reducing the country's reliance on energy imports and helping meet the demands of the national grid.

egg Power operates as Liberty Global's dedicated clean energy infrastructure business. Liberty Global is the parent company of a number of major European telecoms operations, including Virgin Media O2 in the UK through its joint venture with Telefónica, VodafoneZiggo in the Netherlands, and Telenet in Belgium, among others.
The creation and scaling of egg Power reflects Liberty Global's move to build out infrastructure businesses alongside its core telecoms operations.
The Chirmorie deal and the broader egg Power portfolio signal a strategy of positioning Liberty Global's clean energy arm as a supplier to large-scale digital and technology companies that require guaranteed renewable energy supplies over the long term.
The company's reference to AI alongside digital infrastructure in its commentary on the deal points to the anticipated growth in electricity demand from data centres as artificial intelligence applications proliferate.
The NatWest financing facility, which was announced in January, provides the financial foundation for egg Power to continue acquiring project rights and moving assets through development and into construction at pace. The non-recourse structure of the facility means the debt is secured against specific projects rather than against Liberty Global's broader balance sheet.
Scotland as a Renewable Energy Hub
The choice of South Ayrshire for the Chirmorie Wind Farm reflects Scotland's established role as a centre for onshore wind development in the United Kingdom. Scotland has historically been home to a significant share of the UK's onshore wind capacity, owing to its geography, wind resources, and planning environment.
The Chirmorie project, which received planning approval as far back as 2018, had been awaiting a developer to take it through to construction, a process egg Power appears to have accelerated since acquiring the project rights earlier in 2026.
