Avangrid, Inc. announced the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Amazon for energy from the new solar project, Oregon Trail Solar, on September 22, 2025. The 57 MWdc (41 MWac) facility, located in Gilliam County, Oregon, will supply renewable energy to Amazon's data centers in the region, with operations expected to commence in 2027.

Project Specifications and Energy Output

Oregon Trail Solar will utilize over 100,000 solar panels, producing enough electricity to power approximately 10,000 U.S. homes annually. The project represents the second recent renewable energy PPA between Avangrid and Amazon in the Pacific Northwest, adding to a previously announced deal for power from the Leaning Juniper IIA repower project, also located in Gilliam County.

Jose Antonio Miranda, Avangrid CEO, stated that the agreement reflects both companies' commitment to delivering reliable energy solutions that meet America's growing energy needs and support the growth of critical infrastructure. He emphasized that Oregon Trail Solar builds on Avangrid's strong presence in Oregon and deep partnership with Amazon, bringing lasting economic benefits to local communities while bolstering the nation's energy independence.

Employment and Construction Impact

Construction of Oregon Trail Solar is expected to generate 200 jobs, with positions primarily filled by local union labor. Beyond the construction phase, operations at Oregon Trail will support several new full-time jobs in the community, contributing to ongoing local employment opportunities. Sy Oytan, Avangrid Power CEO, described Oregon Trail Solar as another example of how Avangrid works with local communities to build America's energy future.

He noted that the new project builds upon existing investments in Gilliam County and Oregon, while strengthening the region and generating electricity to meet growing energy demand nationwide.

The project strengthens Avangrid's existing relationship with Amazon, as the companies have agreements to generate power from several renewable energy projects in Illinois, Ohio, and North Carolina, in addition to their existing collaborations in the Pacific Northwest.
