Neoen has inaugurated its 412 MW Goyder South Wind Farm in South Australia, marking the completion of what is now the largest wind farm in the state and in Neoen's portfolio. The renewable energy company celebrated the milestone on October 24, 2025, as the facility reached its full generating capacity.

Located on the lands of the Ngadjuri Nation near the town of Burra in South Australia's Mid North region, Goyder South comprises 75 wind turbines built across two stages. The wind farm is expected to generate approximately 1.5 TWh of renewable energy annually, representing a significant boost to the state's renewable energy capacity.

Impact on South Australia's Renewable Energy Goals

The Goyder South Wind Farm is projected to increase wind generation in South Australia's electricity market by more than 20 percent. This substantial contribution plays an instrumental role in supporting the state's aspiration to achieve 100% net renewables by 2027.

Tom Koutsantonis, South Australia's Minister for Energy and Mining, stated: “I commend Neoen on this significant investment and seamless development of what is now the biggest wind farm in South Australia. We are well on track for South Australia to meet its goal of 100 percent net renewables generation by 2027, and projects such as this are at the vanguard of that ambition.”

The minister also highlighted the broader appeal of South Australia's renewable energy resources, noting that “Projects like Neoen's Goyder South Wind Farm highlight the quality of the wind resource here in South Australia, and when combined with abundant solar, it becomes clear why renewable energy companies from around the world are lining up to invest in South Australia.”

Power Purchase Agreements and Customer Commitments

Goyder South is now delivering energy to customers under three long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs). The facility has secured a 14-year contract for 100 MW with the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Government, supporting the territory's journey to net zero by 2045.

Additionally, the wind farm has a 10-year agreement with Flow Power, an Australian electricity retailer, for 40 MW. The third agreement represents an industry-first development: a 70 MW renewable energy baseload agreement with BHP.

This innovative baseload contract with BHP operates in tandem with Neoen's Blyth Battery and is backed by the company's advanced energy management expertise. Through this arrangement, Goyder South supplies the world-leading resources company with power to operate its Olympic Dam mine in South Australia.

Economic and Community Benefits

The construction and operation of Goyder South have generated substantial economic benefits for the region. The project created over 400 construction jobs and established 12 permanent, long-term employment opportunities. The wind farm has also generated over AUD100 million in supply chain outcomes for South Australia's Mid North region.

Beyond economic impacts, Goyder South has delivered a range of legacy initiatives for the First Nations and Goyder communities. These include the creation of a new national park at Worlds End Gorge and the establishment of a AUD250,000 annual community benefit-sharing program.

Future Development Plans

Goyder South represents the first component of Neoen's broader renewable energy strategy in the region. The company's total contribution to South Australia's energy transition will surpass 1.5 GW of renewable energy and storage capacity once construction begins on its Goyder North Wind Farm and Goyder Battery.

These two additional assets, together with Goyder South, form part of Neoen's flagship Goyder Renewables Zone, described as a vast hybrid renewable energy hub located in the state's Mid North region.

Jean-Christophe Cheylus, Neoen Australia's CEO, expressed gratitude for the project's successful completion: “Goyder South is a credit to the world-class wind resources of South Australia and to the team's leadership in leveraging these to develop high-quality projects. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped bring this wind farm to life – our host landowners, the Governments of South Australia and the ACT, and the Regional Council of Goyder, as well as ElectraNet, AEMO, BHP and Flow Power. We hope to continue our longstanding partnership for years to come!”

Xavier Barbaro, Neoen's Group CEO, emphasized the project's broader significance: “We are proud of what has been achieved at Goyder South, the largest wind farm in Neoen's portfolio, and of the decisive role we are playing in South Australia's journey to net zero. Projects of this scale and quality enable us to deliver value to governments, customers, and community stakeholders alike. They become templates for future solutions, opening up opportunities to further accelerate the energy transition in Australia and in the rest of the world.”
