Sunsure Energy Commission's 82.5 MWp Solar Plant in Uttar Pradesh Becomes State's Largest Clean Energy Developer
Sunsure Energy has commissioned an 82.5 MWp open access solar power plant in Erach, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, marking its tenth solar facility in the state. The commissioning was announced on September 22, 2025, further establishing Sunsure Energy as the largest clean energy developer in Uttar Pradesh with 260 MWp of operational open-access solar plants across multiple districts.
Project Specifications and Environmental Impact
The Jhansi solar project is expected to generate 12.8 crore units of clean power annually for the state. Over its operational lifetime, the facility will offset more than 2.20 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions, directly supporting Uttar Pradesh's clean energy transition goals while providing reliable, cost-competitive green power to industrial consumers.
The new plant will supply power to major industrial clients, including Haldiram's, APL Apollo, and one of the country's largest data centers. This addition brings Sunsure Energy's total operational capacity in Uttar Pradesh close to 300 MW, representing a 20-fold growth in just four years since the company began developing solar plants in the state.
Expansion Across Uttar Pradesh
Sunsure Energy now operates solar plants across five districts in Uttar Pradesh: Agra, Banda, Mahoba, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot. The company's journey in the state began in 2021 with the construction of a 15 MW facility in Pailani. The solar plants supply power to industries across multiple sectors, including FMCG, ceramics, metals, and the chemical sector. The company operates under its UP Shakti initiative, described as a vision to power the state's growth with clean, reliable energy.
Current industrial customers in the state include Jindal Stainless, Kajaria Ceramics, Wonder Cement, Gallantt Ispat, Dabur, APL Apollo, and Haldiram's.

Technology and Future Development Plans
Sunsure Energy has evolved its technology offerings from standard solar installations to integrated solar plus Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions. These advanced systems provide utilities and industrial consumers with round-the-clock clean power, addressing peak-hour demand while ensuring cost-efficient and reliable power supply. The company is developing a 125 MW / 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System secured through a recent NTPC bid win.
Sunsure Energy is targeting an operational capacity of 500 MW in Uttar Pradesh by the end of FY26 and aims to reach a 10 GW portfolio by 2030 across its operations.
State Policy and Market Context
According to Shashank Sharma, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Sunsure Energy, Uttar Pradesh's Solar Energy Policy 2022 has positioned clean energy as central to the state's development goals. The policy framework has enabled open access solar, rooftop solar, and third-party power sales to emerge as key procurement strategies for industrial consumers.
The state has implemented progressive banking provisions and waivers on electricity duty, transmission, and wheeling charges, providing confidence for independent power producers to invest in large-scale and storage-backed solutions. Sharma noted that, as a net importer of energy, Uttar Pradesh heavily relies on external sources to meet its power demand, making local clean energy generation a priority.
