Anthropic has announced a new compute partnership with SpaceX, marking a significant expansion of the company's infrastructure capacity and a direct improvement in access for its most active customers.

The SpaceX Colossus 1 Agreement

Under the terms of the deal, Anthropic has signed an agreement with SpaceX to use all of the compute capacity at SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center. The arrangement gives Anthropic access to more than 300 megawatts of new capacity, representing over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs, with that capacity expected to come online within the month. Anthropic stated that the additional capacity will directly improve service for Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers.

Beyond the data center arrangement, Anthropic said it has expressed interest in partnering with SpaceX to develop multiple gigawatts of orbital AI compute capacity, though no formal agreement on that front was announced.

A Growing Portfolio of Infrastructure Deals

The SpaceX deal joins a series of large-scale compute commitments Anthropic has disclosed. The company has entered into an agreement with Amazon for up to 5 gigawatts of compute capacity, with nearly 1 gigawatt of new capacity expected by the end of 2026.

A separate 5-gigawatt agreement with Google and Broadcom is slated to begin coming online in 2027. Anthropic also has a strategic partnership with Microsoft and NVIDIA that includes 30 billion dollars of Azure capacity, and a 50-billion-dollar investment in American AI infrastructure with Fluidstack.

Anthropic noted that it trains and runs Claude across a range of AI hardware, including AWS Trainium, Google TPUs, and NVIDIA GPUs, and said it continues to explore opportunities to bring additional capacity online.

International Expansion Driven by Enterprise Compliance Needs

A portion of Anthropic's capacity expansion is directed outside the United States, a move the company attributed to growing demand from enterprise customers in regulated industries.

Anthropic identified financial services, healthcare, and government as sectors where customers increasingly require in-region infrastructure to meet compliance and data residency requirements.

The company's recently announced collaboration with Amazon includes additional inference capacity in Asia and Europe to help address these needs.

Anthropic said it is deliberate about which countries it will expand into, specifying that it intends to partner with democratic countries whose legal and regulatory frameworks support investments of this scale and where the supply chains for hardware, networking, and facilities can be kept secure.

A Commitment to Local Communities

Anthropic also addressed the broader community impact of its data center expansion. The company said it recently made a commitment to cover any consumer electricity price increases caused by its data centers in the United States.

As part of its international expansion, Anthropic said it is exploring ways to extend that commitment to new jurisdictions and is looking at ways to partner with local leaders to invest back into the communities that host its facilities.
