About the Project Pipeline Calculator

Pipeline forecasts are only as good as what enters the top of the funnel. Most sales forecasts treat identified projects as a given and focus all analytical energy on conversion rates. That is backwards: conversion rates are bounded and slow-moving; the number of identified projects is highly variable and directly within your control.

That reframing changes planning. Revenue targets stop being aspirations and become funnel requirements.

This calculator models how a systematic flow of identified projects converts through your qualification, proposal and win rates into pipeline value and forecast revenue.

Formula

Qualified = Identified × Qualification Rate | Wins = Proposals × Win Rate
I
— Identified Projects — surfaced by intelligence sources
QR
— Qualification Rate — projects that pass your criteria
PR
— Proposal Rate — qualified opportunities that get a proposal
WR
— Win Rate — proposals that convert to wins

The model is a straight multiplicative funnel: identified projects convert through your qualification, proposal and win rates.

Pipeline value is the total value of qualified opportunities. Forecast revenue is the expected revenue from wins.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1

    Set identified flow

Projects per year a tracker surfaces at your filters — calibrate with a free-trial week rather than guessing.

  2. 2

    Apply your funnel rates

Qualification, proposal and win rates from your own history. Defaults are common mid-points, not targets.

  3. 3

    Read pipeline and forecast

The funnel shows each stage; pipeline is valued at qualified stage, expected revenue at wins.

Example calculations

EPC pipeline forecast

Example 1

An EPC contractor identifies 120 projects/year, qualifies 35%, proposes 60%, wins 25% at $2M average value.

Qualified = 120 × 35% = 42. Proposals = 42 × 60% = 25. Wins = 25 × 25% = 6. Pipeline = 42 × $2M = $84M. Forecast = 6 × $2M = $12M.
Pipeline Value:
$84M
Forecast Revenue:
$12M
Qualified Opportunities:
42
Wins:
6
120 identified projects yield $84M pipeline and $12M forecast.

Interpreting your results

The funnel reveals your real constraint. Teams usually discover the binding limit is identified flow, not conversion skill.

Proposal counts fall out of the model — staffing your bid team stops being guesswork.

  • Borrowing industry averages

  • Ignoring identified flow

The number of identified projects is the most important input. Get it right.
