Yara International officially opened its green hydrogen plant in Herøya, Norway. The Norwegian Prime Minister, Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre, inaugurated the 24 MW green hydrogen plant at Herøya Industrial Park, Norway. The plant is the largest operational green hydrogen plant in Europe.
Additionally, the plant will produce over 3000 metric tons of green hydrogen and 20,000 metric tons of green ammonia annually. Furthermore, the green hydrogen produced will cut 41,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually in Europe.

The company has delivered the first volumes of low-carbon footprint fertilizers produced at the site using green ammonia feedstock to Swedish agricultural cooperative Lantmannen. The low-carbon footprint fertilizers produced and delivered will be part of their new Yara Climate Choice portfolio.
Yara's commitment to sustainability extends beyond the green hydrogen plant. The company plans to expand its production of fertilizers using carbon capture storage (CCS). This move could further reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to decarbonizing the food value chain and other energy-intensive industries.
Svein Tore Holsether, CEO of Yara, highlighted that the new green hydrogen plant is a major milestone for Yara and for decarbonizing the food value chain, shipping fuel, and other energy-intensive industries. He also mentioned that the world needs to act urgently on multiple fronts to reach the goals of the Paris Agreement, and CCS is a critical stepping stone to decarbonize rapidly and profitably.
