Headquartered in Yinchuan, China, the Ningxia Baofeng Energy Group commenced the operation of a hydrogen production facility powered by a 200-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park on April 20. The facility is located in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of northwestern China. CGTN claims that this is the world's largest solar-powered hydrogen plant.
The plant electrolyzes water to mate hydrogen and will replace carbon-intensive energy sources like coal. Authorities estimate that the output of the new plant could reduce coal consumption by 254,000 tonnes per year, which in turn would lead to a 445,000-tonne carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions cut.
