Virtus Data Centres Signs 31 MW Power Purchase Agreement with UK Offshore Wind Farms
UK data center provider Virtus Data Centers has agreed to purchase electricity generated from the 194 MW Lynn and Inner Dowsing (LID) offshore wind farms in the UK. The tri-party corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) was signed between Virtus, an energy and sustainability advisory company called Inspired, and the LID offshore wind farms.
Power Purchase Agreement Details
Virtus has subscribed to a combined PPA totaling 31 MW of wind power, representing 16 per cent of the total generation from the wind farms. Renewable energy deliveries will commence on October 1, 2025. The agreement marks a significant step in Virtus's renewable energy procurement strategy. Helen Kinsman, SVP Commercial and Regulatory Affairs at VIRTUS, stated: “As an energy-intensive user, we know it's our responsibility to minimize the environmental impact from all our data center facilities.
Hence, since going live with our first site in 2011, we have been procuring power from 100% renewable sources.”

Lynn and Inner Dowsing Wind Farm Operations
The LID offshore wind farms are located five kilometers off the town of Skegness in Lincolnshire. Funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management own the wind farms and have been generating electricity since 2009. With a combined installed capacity of approximately 194 MW, the projects generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of more than 160,000 UK homes each year.
Corporate Renewable Energy Commitment
The agreement demonstrates Virtus's long-standing commitment to renewable energy sourcing. According to Kinsman's statement, the company has been procuring power from 100% renewable sources since launching its first site in 2011. This corporate power purchase agreement represents a continuation of that environmental strategy, specifically targeting offshore wind generation to meet the energy-intensive requirements of data center operations.
The tri-party structure of the CPPA involves Inspired, described as an energy and sustainability advisory company, facilitating the agreement between Virtus and the offshore wind farms. This arrangement allows Virtus to secure a substantial portion of the wind farms' output while maintaining its renewable energy commitments across its data center facilities.
