Construction has officially commenced on the Waddi Wind Farm in Dandaragan, Western Australia, with Australian-owned renewable energy company Tilt Renewables marking the occasion with a formal sod turning event attended by company CEO Anthony Fowler and Commonwealth Energy Minister Josh Wilson.

Project Scale and Timeline

The 108MW wind farm will consist of 18 wind turbines, each reaching a tip height of 206 metres. Construction is expected to take two years, with more than 150 workers mobilised onsite.

Early civil works have already begun, encompassing internal access roads, a site office and the first turbine foundations. Once operational, the facility is projected to generate enough renewable energy to power up to 68,000 Western Australian homes.

Jobs and Regional Economic Impact

Tilt Renewables says the project will create more than 150 local construction jobs while also supporting regional suppliers throughout the build phase. Beyond employment, the company has committed to investing in local infrastructure, including upgrades to community centres and primary schools in the Dandaragan area.

An ongoing Community Benefit Fund will provide continuing funding for local projects, which the company describes as building a legacy together with the community.

Government and Community Support

CEO Anthony Fowler highlighted the collaborative nature of the approvals and financing process, crediting multiple stakeholders with helping bring the project to construction.

The Western Australian Government, through the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification, and the Shire of Dandaragan both played roles in securing planning approvals. At the federal level, the Commonwealth's Capacity Investment Scheme provided what Fowler described as the long-term certainty needed to commit to such a large investment.

Fowler also acknowledged the active involvement of the Yued Aboriginal Corporation, host landholders and the broader local community as integral to reaching the construction milestone. "Starting construction is a great milestone to celebrate, and represents one of the final steps in what has been a truly collaborative effort," he said.
