Eligible applicants for solar power projects with capacities between 1 MW and 2 MW at a single location include individual farmers, groups of farmers, cooperatives, panchayats, farmer producer organizations, and water user associations. Furthermore, renewable project developers can set up these projects on behalf of farmers.

| The Government of India introduced the centrally sponsored PM KUSUM Scheme, also known as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan Scheme, in March 2019. It aims to provide energy and water security to farmers, enhance their income, and de-dieselize the farm sector.
