Switch, the Las Vegas-based data center developer and operator, has announced plans to build a new campus in Big Beaver Borough, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, marking the company's latest expansion into the northeastern United States.

The project will span 382 acres and is designed to serve finance, healthcare, higher education, and government organizations concentrated across the Eastern United States.

Campus Location and Connectivity

The Beaver County campus is situated in the greater Pittsburgh area, at the intersection of key East-West and North-South fiber routes. Switch cited that geographic position as central to the facility's ability to deliver low-latency connectivity to clients along the Eastern seaboard.

The site in Big Beaver Borough will join Switch's existing portfolio of Prime campuses, which currently includes locations in Las Vegas, Tahoe Reno, Atlanta, Grand Rapids, and Austin.

The company described the location as strategically positioned to extend its platform into a region with dense concentrations of enterprise and institutional clients.

By placing the campus at a major fiber crossroads, Switch aims to reduce the network latency that is increasingly critical for artificial intelligence workloads, cloud services, and sensitive enterprise applications in sectors such as financial services and government.

Power and Sustainability Commitments

Switch stated that it is committed to funding the infrastructure required for its power needs in a manner that does not pass costs onto consumers. The company has built its operational model around what it describes as a differentiated and responsible approach to power, water, and sustainability.

A key element of that approach is the company's proprietary closed-loop water recycling system, which minimizes consumption and eliminates discharge. Switch also highlighted its EVO data center design, which the company says consumes zero water to cool servers and graphics processing units.

Under that design, only a minimal water connection is required for office and warehouse functions. The company did not disclose the expected power capacity or draw for the Beaver County campus in its announcement.

Economic and Community Role

Switch framed the Beaver County project as a long-term infrastructure investment with direct implications for the local economy. Natalie Stewart Mitchell, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Campus Development at Switch, connected the new development to the region's industrial history, describing it as a new chapter for Big Beaver Borough.

"Beaver County helped build America's industrial foundation, and this campus represents a new chapter for the Borough of Big Beaver," Mitchell said. "Switch plans to serve as a long-term partner to Beaver County by investing in infrastructure and supporting local initiatives to stimulate the local economy and benefit the community. We are excited to invest in this region and partner with the community to be a responsible, long-term neighbor."

The company did not specify in its announcement the total capital investment associated with the project, the number of construction jobs it expects to generate, or the permanent employment the campus would support once operational. Nor did Switch provide a projected timeline for groundbreaking or completion.

Switch's Broader Platform

Switch was founded in 2000 by Chief Executive Officer Rob Roy and describes itself as the leading data center campus designer, builder, and operator. The company positions its portfolio as modular, scalable and sustainable, offering a range of facility types including highly dense liquid-cooled artificial intelligence infrastructure, hyperscale cloud data centers and what it characterizes as the industry's highest-rated and most secure enterprise data centers.

The Beaver County announcement represents an extension of a platform the company has developed across multiple major markets in the United States. The addition of a Pennsylvania campus would give Switch a presence in the Mid-Atlantic and Appalachian corridor, a region that has attracted growing interest from data center developers given its proximity to major population centers, available land, and existing power infrastructure.

Switch did not disclose in its announcement whether the Beaver County project involves any agreements with local utilities, state economic development agencies, or municipal governments, nor did it identify any anchor tenants or clients associated with the new campus.
