Suzlon Secures 201.6 MW Wind Energy Order From Waaree Forever Energies for Andhra Pradesh Project in India

Suzlon Group (multinational renewable energy solutions provider) has won a 201.6MW wind energy project order from Waaree Forever Energies Private Limited, the Independent Power Producer arm of Waaree Group, marking the solar manufacturer's first foray into wind energy development in Andhra Pradesh.

A Milestone for Both Companies

The project, announced on Thursday, represents a strategic development for both organisations. For Waaree Group, it constitutes the company's maiden wind energy project in Andhra Pradesh.

 

For Suzlon, it adds another large-scale order to its portfolio under the DevCo execution model, which the company says is emerging as a preferred approach for managing increasingly complex renewable energy projects.

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, described the significance of the tie-up in a company statement. "This partnership is strategically important as it unites two companies whose growth has mirrored the evolution of India's renewable energy sector.

 

Waaree and Suzlon have been trailblazers in solar and wind, respectively, each building world-class manufacturing ecosystems and establishing a strong global presence," he said.

 

Project Specifications and Turbine Configuration

Under the terms of the order, Suzlon will supply and install 64 units of its flagship S144 wind turbine generators, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW. The combined installed capacity of the 64 turbines comes to 201.6 MW. All turbines will be installed at a single location in Andhra Pradesh.

The S144 is Suzlon's flagship turbine model, and the order represents one of the more substantial deployments of that product. The 3.15 MW per unit capacity positions the project among the larger individual wind installations being executed in India's onshore wind sector.

DevCo Model Covers Full Project Lifecycle

The project is being executed under what Suzlon calls its DevCo model, which the company describes as an end-to-end execution framework designed to enable faster project delivery, reduce development risks, and support greater scalability as renewable energy projects grow in size and complexity.

Under this model, Suzlon's responsibilities extend well beyond turbine supply. The company will handle land acquisition, turbine supply, Balance of Plant works, commissioning, and lifetime operations and maintenance services.

 

The comprehensive EPC offering means Suzlon assumes responsibility for the project from the earliest stages of site preparation through to the ongoing operational phase following commissioning.

The company statement noted that end-to-end execution models like DevCo are gaining traction as the renewable energy industry moves toward larger, more technically demanding projects that require integrated management across multiple disciplines.

Waaree Group Expands Beyond Solar

Waaree Forever Energies Private Limited functions as the Independent Power Producer arm of Waaree Group, a conglomerate that has built its renewable energy credentials primarily through solar. The Andhra Pradesh wind project represents the group's deliberate expansion into wind power, diversifying beyond its established solar business.

The order signals that Waaree Group is positioning its IPP unit to operate across both major segments of India's utility-scale renewable energy market. By partnering with Suzlon for the wind project, Waaree is leveraging an established operator's expertise for its initial entry into the segment rather than building that capability independently.

Andhra Pradesh as a Wind Development Hub

The choice of Andhra Pradesh for Waaree Group's first wind project reflects the state's established credentials as a location for utility-scale wind development. The state has long been among India's leading wind energy markets owing to its favourable wind resource conditions.

Suzlon's presence in Andhra Pradesh is not new, and the latest order adds to the company's footprint in the state. The combination of an experienced wind developer executing on behalf of a well-capitalised IPP entering the market for the first time illustrates the type of partnership structures increasingly common in India's maturing renewables sector.

The Waaree Forever Energies order adds to what has been a period of active order intake for Suzlon. The company has positioned its DevCo offering as a differentiated product that addresses the needs of Independent Power Producers looking to develop large-scale wind assets without having to manage multiple contractors and vendors across the project lifecycle.

By consolidating land acquisition, turbine supply, balance of plant, and operations and maintenance under a single arrangement, the DevCo structure is intended to simplify the development process for IPP clients while giving Suzlon a deeper, longer-term relationship with each project it executes.
