Suzlon Launches 'Blue Sky' Platform with 5MW and 6.3MW Turbines Targeting European Wind Markets
Suzlon Group has unveiled a new product platform called Blue Sky at the WindEurope Annual Event 2026 in Madrid, introducing two turbine models aimed at international markets: the S175, rated at 5 megawatts, and the S163, rated at 6.3 megawatts.
The announcement marks a key step in what the company describes as its Suzlon 2.0 strategy, with Europe chosen as the debut market for the platform.
Two Models for Different Wind Conditions
The Blue Sky platform is built around two distinct turbine configurations, each targeting a different wind resource profile. The S175 at 5 megawatts is designed for low-wind sites, where the larger rotor diameter is intended to capture significantly higher energy yields in conditions where wind speeds are relatively modest.
The S163 at 6.3 megawatts is aimed at moderate to high wind regimes, offering high-performance output where stronger and more consistent winds are available.
Both turbines feature tip heights of up to 250 meters, according to Girish Tanti, Executive Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group. The company says the platform enables customers to optimize performance across diverse site profiles, and the two-variant structure is intended to give developers flexibility when matching turbine selection to local conditions.
Built on Three Decades of Operational Data
Suzlon states that the Blue Sky platform has been developed drawing on insights from three decades of wind turbine operation and a globally installed base of 21.5 gigawatts of Suzlon-manufactured turbines across 17 countries.
The company says this accumulated operational knowledge underpins what it describes as greater reliability, higher energy yields, and a reduced levelised cost of energy compared to earlier generations.
The platform is also positioned as going beyond basic turbine performance. Suzlon describes it as delivering grid-integrated, data-driven, and lifecycle-optimized solutions, with an emphasis on compliance with stringent regulatory environments and diverse grid conditions across European markets.
R&D Infrastructure Across Europe
Suzlon points to its existing research and development presence in Europe as central to the engineering of the new platform. The company operates R&D centers in Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark, in addition to facilities in India.
Tanti said these ecosystems power the development of next-generation turbines purpose-built for Europe's mature wind landscape.
The company has been present in Europe for 25 years and operates across 11 European Union markets. Its manufacturing facilities are based in India, while its global headquarters are located at Suzlon One Earth in Pune. The group employs more than 8,500 people worldwide.
Europe's Repowering Phase as a Strategic Target
Paulo Soares, President of Suzlon's European operations, framed the platform launch in the context of what he called a decisive repowering phase now underway across the continent.
As one of the earliest adopters of wind power globally, Europe has a large installed base of older turbines reaching the end of their operational lives, creating demand for replacement capacity with newer, more efficient equipment.
Soares said Suzlon is well positioned to support this transition, citing the company's existing portfolio of 2.x megawatt and 3.x megawatt turbines already deployed in European markets alongside the new higher-capacity offerings.
He said the Blue Sky platform gives customers the flexibility to adapt to diverse wind regimes, grid conditions, and evolving permitting frameworks while maximizing asset value.
Platform Scope and Market Positioning
Suzlon's total global installed base stands at approximately 21.5 gigawatts, with around 15.5 gigawatts installed in India and approximately 6 gigawatts installed outside India.
The Blue Sky platform represents the company's entry into the higher end of the onshore turbine power range for international markets, extending its portfolio, which currently spans the 2.x to 6.x megawatt series.
The choice of Madrid and the WindEurope Annual Event 2026 as the launch venue signals Suzlon's intent to position the platform directly in front of European developers, utilities, and project financiers who make up the primary customer base for large-scale onshore wind in the region.
The company has framed the launch as the first step in the international rollout of the Suzlon 2.0 vision, though specifics of the commercial timeline and order pipeline for the new models were not disclosed in the announcement.
