Western Green Energy Hub wind farm

The Western Green Energy Hub (WGEH) is an ultra-scale onshore wind energy project southeast of Western Australia's Goldfields region. The wind energy project is a collaboration between Intercontinental Energy, CWP Global, and the Traditional Lands Aboriginal Corporation. It is set to generate approximately 50 GW of wind electricity using solar and onshore wind energy.

 

The project's site, chosen for its advantageous diurnal wind and sun profiles and undulating landscape, is well-suited to the construction and operation of the hub. The WGEH will benefit from existing transcontinental rail and highway access, facilitating construction and future operations. The Western Green Energy Hub is expected to have a transformative impact on the green hydrogen market, projected to be worth over USD 2.5 trillion by 2050.

The project will develop over 20 years, with full operations anticipated by the early 2030s. The first production is expected by early 2030, and the project's total cost is estimated to be around AUD 100 billion. In December 2021, the Western Australian Government granted the project Lead Agency Services, and an application for Commonwealth Government Major Project Status is forthcoming. In July 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between WGEH and Korea Electric Power Corporation to develop a Joint Development Agreement to produce renewables-based hydrogen. 

 

Asian Renewable Energy Hub wind farm

The Asian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH), now known as the Australian Renewable Energy Hub, is a 26 GW wind and solar hybrid renewable energy project. It is set to be developed in the Pilbara region of northwest Western Australia, approximately 220 kilometers east of Port Hedland. Led by a Project Development Consortium including CWP Energy Asia, InterContinental Energy, Vestas, and Pathway Investments, the AREH aims to supply renewable power to local energy users in the Pilbara region and produce green hydrogen and green ammonia for export.

 

The development of the AREH will occur over multiple phases, with construction expected to commence in January 2026 and be complete by January 2036. The project has investment, with BP holding a 40.5 percent equity stake and acting as the operator from July 2022, alongside stakes from Intercontinental Energy, CWP Global, and Macquarie Capital’s Green Investment Group. Despite a setback in June 2021 when the Federal Minister for the Environment declined environmental approval for an expanded proposal, the project received conditional environmental approval from the Western Australian Government in October 2020 for Stage One. 

 

H2 Magallanes wind farm

The H2 Magallanes wind farm in San Gregorio in the southern Chilean region of Magallanes is an upcoming renewable energy project by Total Eren SA. Scheduled for commissioning in 2027, this onshore wind farm aims to install 10 GW of wind power capacity to support the production of green hydrogen and ammonia.

 

The project includes the development of up to 8 GW of electrolysis capacity, a desalination plant, an ammonia production facility, and port facilities for transporting green ammonia to national and international markets. UK-based consultancy John Wood Group Plc has been contracted to provide conceptual engineering, focusing on creating a complete off-grid integrated energy complex.

 

The project is set to commence in 2025 to produce hydrogen by 2027, positioning Chile as a competitive player in the green hydrogen market for local consumption and export to American, Asian, and European markets. In collaboration with the University of Magallanes, Total Eren conducts extensive environmental impact assessments and risk analyses.

 

Oman Green Energy wind farm

The Oman Green Energy wind farm in Al Wusta, Oman, is a major renewable energy project that was pre-construction. Owned entirely by Energy Development Oman (EDO), the project is set to be developed in two phases. The first phase, planned for commissioning in 2032, will have a nameplate capacity of 5,000 MW. The second phase, expected to be completed by 2038, will expand the capacity to 10,000 MW. 

 

The wind farm will comprise 16 GW of wind power and 10 GW of solar power to support 14 GW of green hydrogen production. The project involves notable partners, including Enertech Holding CO, InterContinental Energy, and OQ, and aims to leverage Oman's abundant wind resources to produce green hydrogen and ammonia for export.

 

This project is expected to generate 1.75 million metric tons of hydrogen annually, converted into 9.9 million metric tons of green ammonia annually. The final investment decision is anticipated around 2026, with the first output expected by 2032.

AMUN wind farm

The AMUN wind farm is an announced project in Tantan, Guilmim-Oued Noun, Morocco, with a capacity of 7,500 MW. CWP Global heads the project in partnership with Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies. This onshore wind farm is part of a broader 15 GW complex that will include land based wind turbine and solar power to produce green hydrogen and ammonia.

 

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the two companies to conduct a feasibility study in 2023 to explore exporting 500 tons of green hydrogen per day to Europe using Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) technology. This project supports decarbonizing industries such as fertilizer production and maritime shipping.

 

Xinjiang Balikun new energy project wind farm

The Xinjiang Balikun New Energy Project wind farm is a wind energy initiative in the pre-construction phase in Balikun County, Hami, Xinjiang, China. The project, with a planned capacity of 7,000 MW, is a collaboration between Huadian New Energy Group Co. Ltd (60%) and Xinjiang Lixin Energy Co. Ltd (40%), forming a consortium - Chongqing Nengtou Tianshan Energy Development Co. Ltd.

Operated by Xinjiang Huadian Tianshan Power Co. Ltd and Xinjiang Chongqing Energy Power Development Co. Ltd, this wind farm is part of Xinjiang's broader strategy to integrate 40.65 GW of new energy projects, including 10.4 GW of wind power, into its market-oriented grid by 2023. The project will include energy storage infrastructure, with a mandated minimum of 50 MW/200 MWh storage capacity to ensure grid stability and efficiency.

 

West Sohag wind farm

The West Sohag wind farm is in the pre-construction stages in Sohag, Egypt. It is owned entirely by Scatec ASA, and the project involves an investment of USD 5 billion. Set to have a capacity of 5,000 MW, this wind farm contributes to Egypt's clean energy targets, aiming for renewables to constitute 42 percent of the country's energy efficiency by 2030.

 

Beyond energy production, the West Sohag wind farm is projected to create approximately 8,000 job opportunities during its construction phase and provide around 300 permanent jobs, thus boosting the region's local employment and wind resource development.
