Kruger Energy (developer and operator of renewable energy) has officially begun construction of the Saint-Paul-de-Montminy Wind Farm Canada, in Québec, marking a significant milestone for the company as it pushes its cumulative wind energy investments in Canada to USD 1.5 billion since 2008.

The 196-megawatt project, representing an investment of more than USD 580 million, is scheduled for commissioning in December 2027.

Project Location and Partners

The Saint-Paul-de-Montminy Wind Farm, referred to internally as SPDM, spans three municipalities in Québec: Saint-Paul-de-Montminy, Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire, and Sainte-Apolline-de-Patton.

The project has been developed in partnership with the Alliance de l'énergie de l'Est (Eastern Energy Alliance) and Potentia Renewables Inc. (power producer), and construction has commenced following receipt of all required authorizations from regulatory bodies.

Kruger Energy announced that preparatory work is already underway across several areas of the site. Initial activities include clearing work areas, delineating construction zones, and carrying out preliminary work on the future collector system and transmission line.

Scale of Investment and Strategic Significance

The SPDM project represents one of the most substantial individual wind energy investments in Kruger Energy's history. With this project now under construction, the company's total cumulative investment in wind energy across Canada reaches USD 1.5 billion, a figure that spans development activity dating back to 2008.

Kruger Energy has been active in wind power development for more than 20 years. The company positions the SPDM Wind Farm as a project that supports the broader energy transition while also contributing to economic development in the communities that host the facility.

Existing Québec and Ontario Wind Operations

The Saint-Paul-de-Montminy project adds to an existing portfolio of wind facilities that Kruger Energy already operates in both Québec and Ontario.

In Québec, the company runs the Montérégie Wind Farm, a 101.2-megawatt facility that was commissioned in 2012, as well as the Des Cultures Wind Farm, a 24-megawatt installation that has been in operation since 2022. The Des Cultures Wind Farm was developed in partnership with the Mohawk community of Kahnawà:ke.

In Ontario, Kruger Energy operates two wind farms that were commissioned between 2008 and 2011, with a combined capacity of more than 200 megawatts. The company states that these existing facilities contribute to a sustainable supply of renewable energy and generate economic benefits for their respective host regions.

Company Profile and Broader Energy Portfolio

Kruger Energy is a subsidiary of Kruger Inc. and specializes in developing and managing green and renewable power plants. The company's portfolio extends beyond wind power and includes hydro, biomass cogeneration, and solar facilities.

Together, Kruger Inc. and Kruger Energy own and operate 47 power production sites with a total installed capacity of 650 megawatts across their combined holdings.

The SPDM Wind Farm, once commissioned in December 2027, is expected to add 196 megawatts of wind-generated capacity to Kruger Energy's operational base in Québec, substantially increasing the company's wind presence in the province beyond its current combined Québec wind capacity of approximately 125 megawatts across the Montérégie and Des Cultures facilities.
