New South Wales moved a step closer to its clean energy targets this week with the completion of construction and energisation of the Uungula Wind Farm substation, according to Squadron Energy.
Energisation means the substation has been successfully switched on for the first time, a step that clears the way for around 96 km of underground and overhead cabling to be progressively connected to the project's 69 turbines and the grid.
Turbine Testing and Commissioning Set to Begin
Squadron Energy Project Director Sanjay Goel said the milestone, achieved in partnership with energy infrastructure supplier Lumea, allows turbine testing and commissioning to begin as the project moves closer to generating renewable energy for more than 220,000 homes.

The heart of the project
The new 330/33 kV substation incorporates three transformers and connects the wind farm to the electricity network via 28 new towers and 11.6 km of 330 kV transmission line.
Mr. Goel described the substation as the beating heart of the wind farm, responsible for pumping 414 MW of renewable power into the NSW electricity grid.
