A joint venture between India's Failte Energy and China-based Sigenergy plans to invest an initial USD 250 million to establish manufacturing facilities for inverters and battery energy storage systems (BESS) in India.
The investment is intended to expand domestic production of renewable energy equipment as demand for solar power and energy storage continues to increase.
Sigenergy Evaluates Manufacturing Sites
Rahul Morde, Head of Sales for Sigenergy India, outlined the manufacturing plans on the sidelines of the Renewable Energy India Expo in October 2026.
The joint venture is currently evaluating potential locations for its proposed facilities, while the necessary investment approvals are being pursued.

Manufacturing Expansion in India
Sigenergy, which began operations in India earlier in 2026, plans to establish an inverter manufacturing facility as the first phase of the expansion. The plant is targeted to become operational by the second quarter of 2027.
The joint venture subsequently intends to develop a battery energy storage systems manufacturing plant, with operations expected to begin six to eight months after the inverter facility becomes operational.
The proposed investment would establish a local manufacturing presence for equipment used in renewable energy generation and storage. The companies have not yet disclosed the final locations or production capacities of the planned facilities.

Supporting India's Renewable Energy Expansion
The planned manufacturing facilities are intended to support India's growing demand for renewable energy equipment, particularly in the solar power and battery storage sectors.
Inverters convert direct current electricity generated by solar photovoltaic systems into alternating current suitable for electrical grids and end-use applications. Battery energy storage systems store electricity for later use, helping balance electricity supply and demand while supporting the integration of variable renewable generation.
India's continued expansion of solar and wind power capacity is increasing the need for energy storage infrastructure and associated power conversion equipment. The proposed facilities would position the Failte-Sigenergy joint venture to supply products for these applications within the domestic market.
Research and Development Center Planned
Alongside its manufacturing expansion, Sigenergy intends to establish a research and development center in India focused on battery energy storage technologies.
According to Rahul Morde, the company has already complied with India's domestic data storage requirements and is working to secure the investment clearances needed to advance its expansion plans.
Sigenergy develops energy storage products for residential and commercial applications, including batteries, inverters, and energy management software. The proposed Indian operations would strengthen its manufacturing and technical development capabilities in the country's renewable energy market.
Investment Plans Follow Hong Kong IPO
The proposed manufacturing investment follows Sigenergy's listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in April 2026. The company raised approximately USD 562 million through its initial public offering.
The company's expansion in India represents a further step in developing its international manufacturing presence. However, implementation of the proposed facilities remains dependent on securing suitable locations, obtaining the necessary approvals, and finalizing investment arrangements.
The first major milestone is the targeted commissioning of the inverter manufacturing plant by the second quarter of 2027. The battery energy storage systems factory is expected to follow six to eight months later.
Recent Product Launches and Manufacturing Expansion
Separately, Sigenergy has introduced a 166 kW inverter designed for commercial and industrial solar photovoltaic installations. The company said the product incorporates upgraded power electronics intended to improve power density and system efficiency while supporting the integration of solar generation and battery storage.
The inverter is designed to operate at elevations of up to 5,000 meters, with performance derating beginning at 4,000 meters. This capability makes it suitable for solar installations in high-altitude locations.
The product introduction also coincided with the opening of Sigenergy's Nantong Smart Energy Center in Jiangsu province, China. The company has positioned the facility as part of its broader manufacturing expansion strategy and its approach to incorporating artificial intelligence into energy technology.
Together, the proposed Indian facilities and Sigenergy's existing manufacturing operations reflect its efforts to expand production capabilities for renewable energy and battery storage equipment across international markets.
