Sembcorp has obtained approval for an AI-ready data centre project in Ho Chi Minh City, marking a significant development in Vietnam's technology infrastructure expansion.

The proposed hyperscale and artificial intelligence-ready data centre campus will span approximately 4.5 hectares and will be constructed in phases. The facility is designed as a Tier III data centre that will support up to 90 megawatts of computing capacity, with Sembcorp expressing hopes to achieve the highest Tier IV classification.

Data Centre Development

The approval for Sembcorp's AI-ready data centre represents a major investment in Ho Chi Minh City's digital infrastructure capabilities. The facility is designed to support artificial intelligence applications and advanced computing requirements.

The data centre tiers represent a grading system for reliability standards. Tier III facilities are capable of conducting maintenance without experiencing any downtime, while Tier IV facilities can remain online even when equipment unexpectedly fails.

Joint Venture Partnership

The joint venture operates under the name StarMason Joint Stock Company, formed between Sembcorp Development and BB Holdings. BB Holdings brings more than 30 years of experience in large-scale integrated urban projects across Vietnam to the partnership. StarMason Joint Stock Company will now proceed with the evaluation and development planning of the data centre campus, which will be located in Saigon Hi-Tech Park. This represents the first proposed data centre project in Vietnam for the joint venture.

Future Expansion Plans

With this inaugural data centre project in Vietnam, StarMason aims to build on the momentum by exploring additional opportunities to expand its data centre campus development pipeline throughout the country. The company views this project as a foundation for broader expansion in Vietnam's growing digital infrastructure market.
