Saudi Global Ports Secures 20-Year Deal to Operate Key Terminals on Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Coast

Updated on Jun 25, 2025, 04:00 AM IST

Saudi Global Ports Group (SGP) has signed four 20-year concession agreements to operate and develop multipurpose terminals at major ports along Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Coast. The move marks a significant step in advancing the Kingdom’s logistics capabilities and aligns with the country’s broader Vision 2030 economic transformation goals.

The long-term concessions, awarded through SGP's subsidiary Modern Port Services Company Limited, cover terminals at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, Jubail Commercial Port, King Fahad Industrial Port in Jubail, and Ras Al-Khair Port.

As part of the agreement, SGP will invest over 700 million Saudi Riyals (approximately USD 187 million) in upgrading port infrastructure and acquiring new terminal equipment. These enhancements aim to increase efficiency and resilience across the four terminals, which will be integrated into SGP’s broader logistics network in Dammam and Riyadh.

The company’s strategic development plan includes optimizing operations to support Saudi Arabia’s growing trade volumes and key national projects.

SGP, in collaboration with its technical partner PSA International, will introduce tailored training programs for both current and incoming terminal staff. The programs will emphasize best practices in safety, operations, and sustainability, drawing from PSA’s global experience in managing multipurpose terminals.

The initiative is expected to enhance local workforce capabilities and promote knowledge transfer in critical logistics functions.

Supporting Vision 2030

The concessions form part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a national framework to reduce oil dependency and diversify the economy. By modernizing terminal operations and improving supply chain efficiency, the partnership between SGP and the Saudi Ports Authority is designed to position the Kingdom as a global logistics hub.

Officials expect the upgraded infrastructure and operational expertise brought in by SGP to contribute significantly to the economic diversification efforts and to facilitate the logistics requirements of several ongoing mega-projects across the country.

SGP currently operates container and cargo terminals in Saudi Arabia and is a joint venture involving the Public Investment Fund and PSA International.
