Novaporte has advanced discussions with Canadian and international institutional investors for its proposed offshore wind manufacturing port in Sydney Harbour, Nova Scotia, following participation in the inaugural Canada Investment Summit held in Toronto last week.

Summit Brings Global Capital to Cape Breton Project

The Canada Investment Summit brought together leading investment executives, Canadian institutional investors, business leaders, and government representatives with the shared goal of attracting long-term capital to major Canadian infrastructure projects. Novaporte's USD 1 billion-plus Phase One infrastructure program was selected for inclusion in the Summit's investment deal book following more than 13 years of development.

Novaporte worked alongside federal and provincial representatives during the event to welcome international investors and encourage them to consider Nova Scotia and Cape Breton as they evaluate Canadian infrastructure opportunities.

The company and its Canadian investment partner, Fengate Asset Management, also hosted separate meetings at Fengate's Toronto offices with international fund executives and leading Canadian institutional investors, including those focused on marine and infrastructure assets.

Fengate Signals Up to USD 213 Million in Equity Support

A central outcome of the Summit activity was Fengate's indicative support for an equity investment of up to USD 300 million across the Novaporte platform. Fengate has followed and supported the Novaporte development plans for more than a decade, tracking the platform as it evolved from its origins in Sydney Harbour into what the firm describes as an opportunity of national significance.

Darcy Wilson, Managing Director of Infrastructure Investments at Fengate Asset Management, cited the combination of Canadian institutional capital, longstanding Indigenous partnership, and meaningful Indigenous economic participation as the factors that distinguish the opportunity.

Fengate also participated alongside Novaporte Wind Canada LP in the prequalification process conducted by the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Energy Regulator, extending its working relationship with the Novaporte development team.

A Port Designed for the Full Offshore Wind Supply Chain

At the center of the proposed ecosystem is the Sydney Harbour Offshore Wind Manufacturing Port, which Novaporte has designed to go beyond conventional turbine marshalling functions. The company plans to combine heavy-lift marine infrastructure with industrial lands capable of supporting component manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, logistics, operations and maintenance, and other elements of the offshore wind supply chain.

The stated objective is to attract anchor manufacturers and suppliers to Cape Breton and connect Canadian manufacturing to North Atlantic and European markets. The port is also being designed to support the future requirements of Novaporte Wind Canada LP, the SHIP-Membertou offshore wind development partnership that was successfully pre-qualified by the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Energy Regulator.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston called the initiative a generational opportunity. He noted that Novaporte and Membertou have spent more than a decade building partnerships and positioning Cape Breton to participate in the province's Wind West offshore wind ambitions.

Houston said the convergence of Canadian institutional capital, international offshore wind expertise, and workforce development around a Nova Scotia project represents the kind of collaboration needed to build an offshore wind industry and supply chain in the province.

Membertou Partnership at the Foundation of the Ecosystem

The partnership between Novaporte and Membertou First Nation sits at the foundation of the broader industrial ecosystem the company is assembling.

Chief Terry Paul of Membertou, who has worked alongside Novaporte for more than a decade through the SHIP partnership, said the Toronto discussions demonstrated the importance of bringing Indigenous partnership, Canadian capital, and international investment together around projects designed to create multigenerational economic opportunities.

Membertou's involvement in the SHIP-Novaporte platform represents a longstanding relationship that predates the current momentum building around offshore wind development in Atlantic Canada. Chief Paul described the effort as one that could create lasting economic benefits for Membertou's people and for Cape Breton more broadly.

Global Operating Expertise and Labor Partnerships

Novaporte has designated Blue Water Shipping of Denmark as its exclusive offshore wind marshalling port operator. The Danish firm brings more than 25 years of wind logistics and terminal operating experience to the project. That international expertise is intended to be paired with a Canadian workforce through Novaporte's partnership with the International Longshoremen's Association.

The ecosystem also extends internationally through the Northern Lights Ports Alliance, which connects Sydney Harbour with Nordic and North Atlantic partner ports. The alliance is intended to support trade relationships between Canadian manufacturers, northern communities, and established European offshore wind markets, providing Cape Breton with linkages to jurisdictions where offshore wind development is already at an advanced stage.

Positioning Cape Breton Within Nova Scotia's Wind West Framework

The broader context for Novaporte's development push is Nova Scotia's Wind West initiative, which the province has positioned as a framework for building a world-class offshore wind industry. Novaporte's platform is being structured to serve as the industrial and logistical backbone for that ambition, providing the port infrastructure, manufacturing capacity, and supply chain connectivity that large-scale offshore wind development requires.

The company's progress at the Canada Investment Summit, including the discussions held with global fund executives and the indicative commitment from Fengate, represents the latest step in a development trajectory that Novaporte has been pursuing for more than thirteen years in Sydney Harbour.
